HELP!!! Need to make a Major Tire decision soon
Alright I have to make a major decision. With the help of everyone I have decided to go away from the 37's and come back into realistic sense's (girlfriend and other friends had imput too). Anyways I have decided to go with 35x12.5x17 tires on my ram using a 4in lift. The thing is that I don't know which tire I want. As you can see my list is pretty long. My truck is going to be a DD for the most part, but I need something that when I go mudding or trailing on the weekend that I know my G/F and I will make it back without assistance. The mud is pretty thick and there are a couple of streams to cross. Right now I can get by with my 285x70x17 Khumo AT's, but I would actually like to play in the mud instead of worrying about it and trying to stay in high spots. On the other hand I need a tire that won't die out on pavement instantly and will also be somewhat quite. Looking for at least 40k out of these tires at the minimum. Maybe even 50k+ because I rotate with every oil change. As far as sound I have a flowmaster exhaust and am planning to switch to a Cherry Bomb with new headers, CAI, and magnaflow cats. Basically that should cover the sound. Anyways the above are the tires that I am looking at. Right now the Toyo MT's are my front runner because they have a E load rating and specs are 34.9x13.2. I also like the design and have heard that they wear very well and evenly. The next two on my list is the DC FCII's and the Nitto Mud Grapplers. All imput and experience with these tires would be great. Also pictures of what they look like on the truck becasue the last thing you want is a whimpy looking tire on such a nice truck.
Thanks for the help,
-Eric

I would recommend the pro comp A/T. I have them on both of my trucks and I have easily got more than 40,000 miles on the tires and they still have a lot of tread on them. The only thing is that the tires are a little sensitive to the road. But all in all They work well for me.
Yeah I think that the polls are down too. I don't know what's wrong with it. Sorry for the inconvienence. Please continue to post your...

Sorry again but thanks for your patients.

For a daily driver that wants to have good highway characteristic and siping for wet pavement PLUS a good, aggressive tread for off-road use I'd say the Cepek's are your best bet. Mickey MTZ's, Toyo's and the Cooper STT's would also be good choices.
Since I was traveling a good bit between my old home in middle Ga. and central Fl. a good bit when my parents first got sick, I had to make a choice to get away from very aggressive M/T's and get tires that would last a long time on the interstate, handle well on pavement, yet, not get me stuck when working around the farm or going in the low lands for hog hunting & fishing.
After a lot of research, I went with the Cepek's. A great compromise tire that is actually the only one that is a true cross between an A/T & M/T tread.
Unless my truck becomes a true weekend only warrior and I go to super aggressive Boggers or Claws, I'd replace these Cepek's with the same thing next time in a heartbeat. BTW: 19k on these tires right now and they look like I just stuck them on last month...

i have the pro comp xtreme a/t's havent had them very well, but low on noise, ya theres some, but hey. whatever. havent had them very long to tell you about wear. but they have a 40k mile warranty and ive heard lots of people getting over 50k miles on them. also IMO a pretty agressive tire, deep tread! if you want a tire for a daily driver and something that can handle off road, id got with the epek fc-II's or the pro comp xtreme a/t's
The polls never ever work! The DF people need to either fix the problem or take the selection off! I love the look of the BFG KM2's!

Well I think that I have narrowed it down a bit in my selections. My top 2 front runners are the Toyo MT's and the Dick Cepek FCII's.Under that is the BFG Mud Terrains and the Cooper STT's because they are like the Toyo's. The Nitto's would be a dream but are way too noisy and not practical for my application, as are the claws. So the new order goes...

Thanks for all the previous help, but just need a little bit more because I am almost there.

You really can't go wrong with any of your four choices. They are all a solid tire and the only one I've ever heard anything negative at all on is the BFGs, but that's even a rarity.
Personally, the only tire I'd pay good money for that's not a Cepek/Mickey Thompson would be a Toyo. But that's not to say that a few of the other's are not a great tire as well...

I have the M/T ATZ'S. Mine are 33/12.50/17. I haven't had them long but so far they are great. Very little road noise, rides great and does the job off road.
