06 Leveling kit rubbing?!?!
#21
yeah I am not so much concerned with the rubbing as I believe it is just where it hits when the wheel is cranked all the way. I cannot figure out the steering shake. I had it into the dealer 4 times and they replaced both outer tie rod ends and said that the leveling kit was causing the shaking! Could it be ball joints? can I check this easily? I told the dealer to look at the ball joints, and they said they did and they were fine!
Mine had some shake but i had 4wd ingaged, and mine i believe is because the camber is outa wack still, but 2wd is fine no shake drives staight

OK I tried the 4wd today. It actually smoothes everything out on the highway cruising! the wheel shake is gone. BUT.....when putting the pedal down to take off or speed up a little there is a really bad driveline vibration. only when in 4wd. Back in 2wd the driveline vibration goes away but then I get the steering shake! any thoughts. I think I am going to have to take this lift out

Doing a full throttle take off in 4 high might not be such a good idea... puts a lot of stress on everything... I know almost all the diesel guys race in 4 high but I think that is with some drive train mods... Most vehicles recommend that you don't exceed a certain speed in 4 high and another for 4 low (someone can chime in with the actual limits). Also I believe a little rubbing is normal when you turn hard, especially if you drive over anything that compresses the suspension. But as for the shimmy... that is something other then a suspension/ chassis issue. Can you rock a wheel back and forth (laterally), especially if it is lifted off the ground?

I am not "racing" by any means. it has a bad vibe when simply accelerating from a stop light or to get on the highway. rpms are only at 2500 or so and the vib is there. Also are you saying that you cant go on the highway with 4wd? that would suck I live in Wisconsin! I am pretty sure I will be using 4wd in the winter on the highway.......its a truck for cying out loud. Again I am not really concerned about the rubbbing I know what that is now. Its the shimmy I am getting pissed at! thanks

I would take it to get an alignment! Tell them to put it to the exact specs!
If you take it to a reputable shop, they won't try and align it with bad front end components! so you can get a second opinion here, but I think this the route I would take! I would also put the tire with the most weights on it and put it on the right, rear position!

Well I got an alignment when I first put the lift on, but that did not help. I do not have torsion bars its an 06 so I got struts! I took the lift back out this weekend, and wow. I miss it already! It did however completely fix the driveline vibration in 4wd and the steering wheel shimmy is pretty much gone. I guess the lift puts too much angle on the driveshafts up front. I hate how low the truck is now though. It feels like a low rider! Are there any other options for lifting/leveling these things?
