either the sensor or oil pump is bad..Id replace the sensor first since it is the cheapest and easiest.

It's Probably the oil press s/w. It's located above the oil filter. They have a history of getting clogged up easily. I had the same problem on my Ram. I replaced the s/w and haven't had a problem since. If you can bang on the sensor and get a reading then odds are it isn't the oil pump. If the pump was shot you'd start hearing a lot of metal griding if the truck was running for any period of time, and you wouldn't get intermittent pressure from it. Besides the s/w will only cost you a few bucks..

If it's ticking, it ain't the switch. Sounds like the oil pump pick-up is clogged and starving the pump for oil.

you'd have to drop the oil pan to access the pump & pick-up screen.

Hope you find out quick. This could be very expensive if the oil pump is bad (very unusual). The ticking is a sign of low oil pressure, it means the lifters are not getting enough oil. I would not drive it until I knew what the problem was. Good luck.

the more i think about the symptoms...it seems to me that its the sensor. if its not the sensor, im going to drop my oil pan and clean the screen. hopefully the sensor will fix it. and ill be done with this crap. i called the dealer yesterday and they told me they had the sensor, so i go there and they tell me they dont have it wtf! so the guy ordered it and theyre closed for the 4th of july, so im going to pick it up first thing tomorrow morning

this trucks weird. its had a very strong history of having a problem for a couple days, then fixing itself. i start it up, guage satys right where it should be. drove around the block, guage stayed fine. but i did give it some gas and got to 3500 rpm and it dropped a good bit, but not to 0. just dropped to about 1/4 way for a second then right back to the half way mark. im gonna let it sit again and let it fix itself haha. ill take it for a real drive later on and see what happens
