Only problem I've read about the non-oil, high-flowfilters is that you have to change the oil more often as they allow more contaminants into the engine. But I'm not gonna debate you which is better, the original poster wanted to know if there was any benefit to using a high flow filter over a standard paper one and I think most of us are in agreement that there is...

 

pep boys carries K&N. but for our rams, they dont carry it in stock. its a special order from the warehouse. if you want it that day, go somewhere else. as for performance, i use the K&N drop in and have been quite happy with it. and a said the K&N has a recharge kit. therefore if you keep buying paper filters that you have to replace, your just going to be saving yourself money by going to the K&N since it doesnt have to replaced. and its a better filter. nuff said

ive got a volant cold air intake and i noticed a difference in take off, and gas milage on long drives not so much on the short distances though

After getting some input from SevereDistortion, and reading this topic, I am planning on getting an Amsoil synthetic filter very soon. Just got my Airaid MIT today on ebay, so once it gets here I will go down and grab the filter from my local Amsoil dealer. I think its a good deal since, as others said, you will be spending about the same (if not more) in the long run on paper filters. I think synthetic would do a much better job as well. And I debated on going with K&N for quite some time, but I just dont wanna deal with the oiling. While it may not seem like a big deal to some, (like my Dad), I dont wanna mess with it.

I'm not buying that at all....Your Amsoil filter is only good for 4 years.......K&N and Green Performance Filters are lifetime.

Lets see...spend 10 bucks more and have a lifetime filter that you have to wash and oil for chump change....

or 10 less andhave to buya new filterevery 4 years....Hmmmmm

 

Who says you have to buy a new filter every 4 years...do you have to buy a new vehicle just becausethe warranty runs out on your current one? That's just retarded thinking...BTW Amsoil is known for having outstanding products. They don't need a gimmick warranty to get people to buy their products.

And speaking of the k&n million mile warranty...I guarantee they'll shaft you on that.

Yea good luck with getting one replaced...that ought to be a blast. This guys web site has been floating around for years...might wanna read it. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest1.htmThe amsoil filter in the test is a foam filter...not the synthetic fibers. Cliff notes on the test...k&n flows a tiny bit better then paper filters but lets a lot more dirt in your engine. And that's on a properly maintained filter..

 

If you want to buy a K&N drop-in, let me know. I have one. I think I paid $50.00 for it new. It has probably about 15,000 to 20,000 miles on it. I'll even clean it and oil it for you. It's been sitting in my garage (wrapped in plastic) for about 3 years now. I don't think I'll ever use it again. I'll sell it for $30.00 plus shipping. You'd need to replace the paper filters every 15,000 miles or so.

That's a nice unit, but it still has the restrictive silencer between the tube abd the throttlebody. That's what needs to go for more airflow.
