Exhaust issues
Iown a 2006 dodge ram 1500 big horn with the 5.7 hemi in it and i just went to our loca rainbow muffler and wanted a louder exhaust on it. He told me there are 3 mufflers on it and he replaced the large one in the middle with the flowmaster muffler and that didnt give it anymore sound, so he then cut the one in the front and the one in the rear off and replaced it with pipe, he started it and it sounded great, i take off down the road and just when it shifts into 3rd gear at about 1500 rpms going around 30 mph under the cab the exhaust sounds different. its almost like its kinda vibrating a little bit and its a louder leakin like sound but only sounds like that when im going that speed and that rpm....could this be an exhaust leak or something else. And sometimes when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd it feels like the transmission just barely hesitates and does not shift as smooth as the other gears. do these trucks usually have tranny problems or is it just me trying to find something wrong with it?Before he took all 3 of them off i took it around the block and it did it but not as bad....when i drove it around the block it was with the flowmaster in place and the front resonator off, and that wasnt loud enough so he cut the other one off. any suggestions? put the factory back on or what?
Your truck being an 06 is the key part here...you have MDS which engines shuts down 4 cylinders during light throttle and steady speeds. That change is sound is the MDS activating and it's resonation that you hear...those two resonators help minimize it.
As far as I know putting them back on is the only help...you'll getresonation a little bit no matter what with an aftermarket muffler.
The tranny could have a problem but the dealer will just say the hesitation is normal until 3rd completely goes out. My tranny doesn't really hesitate..it's more of a slow shifting tranny. That might be what you're feeling..

This is the reason I still have the stock exhaust on my truck. I rode in one that was an 07 with the Hemi. It did the same thing and it sounded like crap at times. The owner went back with the stock exhaust.
Thank you so much....i kinda thought that might have something to do with it....im just gonna have to go back and have the factory put back on. Other then when that MSD kicks in it sounds great, thanks for the advice, im sure i wont get my money back on the muffler so if anyone needs a single in single out flowmaster 40 series let me know. There prolly isnt anyway to turn the MSD off or bypass it is there?
I just went through the same thing. had the aero turbine 3030 installed. Sounded great until the MDS kicked in. The exhaust shop agreed that it sounded bad and gave me a full refund and installed my stock muffler free of charge.

My 07 does the same thing with a magnaflow dual exhaust. Go into tow/overdrive off until your going about 50 mph. MDS is controlled by back pressure. You reduced back pressure so now MSD freaks out....
Yo might also check to see if you have an open TSB. Some of the TCM's were programmed wrong causing a problem with shifting and MDS.
