I know mmstar is baiting me with this because he knows I have an issue with Pro Comp tires.

I read these reports about them lasting so long and was seriously looking to buy a set of M/T's when I did my lift. EVERYBODY in my hunting club who had/previously had them advised me against them.

A search on "Ripoff Report" shows more claims against them than any other tire brand.

Now I'm not doubting anyone who says they like theirs or even those who have stated they got great use out of them. Steve is one on this forum whose word I would take seriously and I sincerely hope everyone who has a set has tremendous luck with them. I've never owned a set, but put stock in the opinions of my friends, especially avid outdoorsmen who have use the product.

Be your own judge, get all the information you can (both pro & con) before spending your good money on a purchase as large as new tires (not just the brand in question, but any brand) for your truck.

Here's a quick link to reports posted on them there are links to multiple posts by many on this page, I suggest you read them all.

I've been thinking of getting a set of these so I appreciate the information from both sides of the coin. Guess I have some more research to do.

hahahaha! XD this thread was just for you hammer!

i think tires are something that arent exactly the same for everyone. some tires are good and some are bad. guess its kind of a flip of the coin whether they were manufactured well or not. theres plenty of guys that have had problems with the procomps and theres some that have had them for 60,000+ miles with great results. hammer loves his DC FC-II's but a guy down the street from me has them are theyre chewed up pretty good! and he drives a pavement queen. says theyre the worst tires he bought yet. i think it really depends on the individual tire, not a whole company or make. now some are more reputable than others where some lean to one side more than other such as good and bad.

Yea, I know what you mean. I told you about the kid used to work with me had the pro comp ATs and had to replace them after 18k, and I saw them, they were bald. Guy down the street from me swears by 'em. Has 'em on his Cheby and swears he's got 50k on them, prolly good for another 10.
Your guy down the street, tell him to air 'em up and he won't have a problem, if you run FCII's too low, the big aggressive blocks and sidebiters make contact with the pavement and they'll chew up just like M/Ts do. With at least 40 lbs. in 'em (max is 50), the A/T type center lugs keep the sidebiters off the concrete, he'll get a ton more wear out of 'em.
On the serious side though, and I'm not hacking on them, do a Google for Pro Comp recalls, there's a site has recall info on your AT's made around the time I think you got yours. Some sizes were made in China and the belts are separating on the highway. Says it effects like 112,000 of 'em. Make sure it's not yours. Dangerous situation and Cooper (parent company) is in trouble with the feds for keeping it under wraps. Just so you know I'm not picking on you, there are Cepek's and Mickey's on the list too, as they were also bought out by Cooper a few years back...
Read it today when I was getting ammo to throw at you, but I didn't save the link. If I find it I'll PM you, but it'll pop up near the top on a Google search...

If you found the site, I think it listed a range of #'s. Should be the DOT #, which should be on your sidewall. I didn't look that far, there were relatively few Cepek's that were recalled and my size was not one of them. Mine are not new enough anyway, to be made in China and say "Made in USA" on the sidewall.

That's the date's I thought might have been around when you got yours. The page I saw didn't give specifics on size. There are quite a few other recalls for Pro Comp but have manufacture dates from '04 to '06, so you should be ok.
Looks like just about all the major brands have recalls and 90% have to do with models made in China.
Seems like every time you turn on the news things being recalled that were made in China, not to mention that big dog food thing where peoples dogs were dropping dead from eating dog food that American companies were having made there. Makes you wonder...

I've always wondered with the Pro Comps, how some guys write the worst posts about them, I've told you where I've read on tire forums how people have not gotten 15k out of a set, then guys like Steve get 80k out of a set. Would be interesting if it were possible to find out what sets were made in China and what sets were made other places. Wonder if there would be a pattern there???

hate to say it, but a pattern is probally evident with them being manufactured in china. just like you said, it seems most recalls come striaght out of china.

did some resaerch last nigh, looking around on google and ran into quite a few sites. the recall is in affect for the tire i listed above. there were some XAT's that had some recalls a few years back, mainly in 2006. but it was also a specific tire size, and if im not mistaken it was a 38x14.5R20. googling it mostly brought me to other forums, such as a jeep forum where they were talking about it.

thanks for looking out though hammer. glad you said something about a recall.
