Dodge seems to be selling their loyal customers out that bought Rams at close to sticker prices a few years ago. Its a insult. I am all for a good discount but damn,...Dodge is hacking the new prices down so low, resale for us 2 year old Ram owners are being raped. If the Ram is a $25k truck then lets not have a ridicules MSRP price of $35k. This is why my high dollar cars are German. Spending more than $40k for any domestic car is like pissing money away.

Heck, I paid 10k off sticker 6 months ago, and now I'm looking at people that claim they got theirs for half off the sticker price! How low can it go? And do I need to buy another one before it runs out?

I hear you. Thats about where I am at now. My wife loves to drive my 2500 and I am thinking about a 1500 mega just for her if I can get one 50% off. I wonder what these trucks cost to produce???? At this point I am looking at the trucks as a disposable vehical because they wont be worth much regarless of miles/condition.

no secret that MSRP/build cost is highest amongst trucks. i imagine they aren't making more than a few hundred per truck now. otherwise they won't be able to give them away without a few hundred loss once the 09s come out, and won't be able to sell those either.

truck market plummeted, they're dealing with it the best way they know how, and it sucks for everyone except those who bought there truck less than 5-6 months ago.

not to mention they are trying to clear the lot for the new 09's. that's how the cookie crumbles tho. I guess IDC mainly because I don't buy a car for the sole purpose or reselling it.

It's no so much that it's the discounts, it's the crazy high MSRP they arbitrarily give to these things. I mean if they can afford to sell a truck for $20k, ain't no way on earth it should have an MSRP of $40k!!! It's as insulting as when demand is high, like the diesels were when I bought my Hemi in '04. They had a separate sticker to the right with the cheazy little dealer add-ons like $199 for a pin stripe. Had a line item on every diesel on the lot that said "Adjusted Market Value - $4500.00"... WTF is that?
$4500 more because the dealer decided it could make it on the diesels. I went in to buy one, I had a diesel prior to my '98 Dodge 1500 4x4 and wanted one again, but the sticker was $9000 more than a loaded Hemi, the "adjusted market value" added $4500 more and they (nor the two other dealers I went to - who had the same bs going on) wouldn't budge off sticker. Coupled with the fact that you could get about $6000-$7000 off Hemi's at the time between rebate and dealer discounts it made a 4x4 QC CTD $ 20,000 more than a 4x4 QC Hemi whose MSRP was only $9000 less! There was just no friggin way!!!

Heck, they're advertising 40% off in their current advertising. Glad I bought used. My truck's still worth nearly what I paid for it.

Here's another one that gets me, although I'm actually defending the dealers with this one.
Just read on another forum, a guy wants to trade his '07 QCSB 4.7 4x2 in on an '08 QCSB Hemi 4x4, went to his local dealer who was advertising a $41k truck for $24k, about 42% off sticker. They offered him $11k for his truck. KBB shows retail of $16k & average trade of $13k. The SOB is screaming bloody murder over there! He's bragging he gave the dealer an ultimatum of $24k for the new truck and wants $18k for his (with almost 40k miles on it no less) because it's "real clean". Swears the dealer will "come to it's senses and not pass up a sale" and call him by tomorrow.
So I post & tell him not to hold his breath, that he's getting a great deal, he's getting 42% off retail and they are giving him within about 15% of average trade for his truck, and most dealers don't even want to take a truck in on trade right now. What did he want to have his cake and eat it too?
Now the dumb f**k is CALLING ME every name in the book! I mean, what the hell, how does someone expect to get ABOVE retail for their trade when the truck they are buying is discounted over 40%?

The discounts, although not as large, have been going on for years and everyone knew the MSRP was a phony number to make you feel good. In 2004, mine was bought for just under $21k with a sticker of better than $32. I would be fooling myself if I thought it would be worth more than 50% of what I paid for it 4 years later. Yea, the market went south on anything that uses much fuel, but this will pass too. In the 70's, I sold my 1970 W30 442 for $1600 due to the oil embargo. Watching the auctions on TV, I still dream what could have been.

Back in the '70s! You mean there is actually someone on this forum older than me?

My personal favorite car btw. Never had one but, when I was playing minor league ball in the 80's, one of my coaches had an Olds 442, even though it was a national league affiliated team, he had once worked in the Yankee system (I've been a Yankee fan since I could walk) it was dark blue with dual white stripes starting with the dual hood scoops, extending over the roof & trunk. Had a huge Yankee emblem took up the whole roof.
I've often wondered what became of that car...
