adjust original cam
This may be a silly question, but is it possible to retard the original cam in a 4.7 Ram. The only other mod I have done is the Flowmaster 50 series Dual behind tailgate. I was thinking about this, and changing gears cause I tow a bunch but I'm not sure if I have to do more mods with this (Cam) to make it work. Also tossing around just switching out the cam althogether. What do you guys suggest for a replacement?

would advancing the cam then make more low end torque? or which cam would produce more low torque. Sometimes when towing I have to travel on the interstate granted I dont try to make it to 75mph, but I feel the need to go at least 65. doing this with overdrive off bumps up my rpms to about 2800-3000 or somewhere up there depending on hills. If by having more low end torque at about 2000 rpm I would have no problem towing with overdrive on on mostly flat ground.

Looking at my truck, it would more than likely be a major pain in the *** to advance the cams. Get some 4.56 gears. Good luck finding a pair of RV/4x4 cams for it, I have looked. Good luck finding a programmer other than the crappy Jet one for a 4.7, they don't exist. Get some headers, free flowing exhaust, and an intake kit, that's pretty much all there is for the 4.7 until you step up to major mods like a s/c.

get a hold of a FSM paper manual or .pdf file for your year Ram
copy the pages for camshaft removal or installation
especially the pictures
take this to a local machine shop
and ask them about whether custom made 'offset keys'
could be made by them
to advance or retard your 4.7 overhead camshaft setting
they won't work for your engine (I don't think)
but offset key sets for the
old LA/Magnum small block V8s timing chains
are very cheap at the dealership ( P5249600 )
