Default New here buying a 02 Ram 1500 5.9L

Hello, I'm currently in the process of buying a 02 dodge ram and would like to know what performance parts you think I should add. It has the 5.9L Magnum in it.

It has a gibson exhaust already otherwise its stock except for the SRT10 hood w/scoop.

I was thinking a air intake and a programmer at least. What other parts do you think would be a good mod. Also which intake and programmer would you recommend?

Edit: Also was thinking of a lower temp thermostat I see mostly 180 degree but some 160. Would 160 Be too low?

Welcome to DF. Superchips is probably the best programmer. As for intakes there are dozens available and everyone has different opinions. Post up some pics when you get a chance.

I say 160 to low. 180 is the popular one. You can get a lot of engine mods for that bad boy since the motor hasn't changed from the old ones.

I don't really wanna get involved with anything too advanced but when it comes to simple stuff like a programmer and a intake that's not bad. We are gonna pick it up this week its a Black Quad Cab Sport. Its scratch free and only has 55 thousand miles. I'll get some pics when I pick it up.

I think they make a cam and computer swap kit for those.

Hello again

Finally picked it up tonight and brought it home. Only thing is I noticed now remote start is not working. Normally to remote start you press Lock then Unlock then Lock again on the key fob. Tonight it would start then shut down 2 seconds later then 15seconds later start again then shutdown then 1 more time do that again. 3 times. Did the seller remove some type of security thing from the car before he sold it to us or am I just doing something wrong. The seller said he wasnt sure why it wasnt working either. So Im confused a bit now.

edit: there is a little black box under the steering wheel in there and a little flip switch when I flip it I get nothing from the alarm or remote start and when I flip it back remote start works but I get the 3 start cycle
