Default loud fan?

in my 05 1500 hemi it sounds like the fan is quite loud, def overpowers the sound of the exhaust both driving or revving.

Im new to rams and I was just wondering if this is normal or if their is something I should be aware of?

Mine does that when it starts sometimes, but it never lasts more than a few seconds.

I notice it all the time driving. Sounds like the fan spins harder whenever you step on the gas.

On previous cars Ive owned its the sound of the fan you usually hear when you start driving on a cold day....except my truck makes the noise constantly

Going to guess a bad fan clutch.

Yeah your fan should definitely not do that. Typically it is a bad fan clutch.

thanks for the quick responses guys...would their be anyway to test this out or confirm this could be the problem before taking it to the dealer?

the wierd thing is a lot of the problems I read about bad fan clutches was the trucks running hot (mine runs the slightest bit higher than the middle which I assume is correct).

Some slip and cause overheating and some seize up and act like a direct drive fan. This will put a strain on the waterpump and cost some MPG to boot. When it is hot, the fan should spin fairly easy by hand when not running. If it is tight or won't turn, replace the clutch.

It could go either way... If the clutch gets stuck in the "on" position, for lack of a better term, then your engine may take a while to get up to temperature, because it's always on, and you'll hear the fan always running. If it gets stuck in the "off" position, then your engine will tend to run hot because the fan isn't pushing air into the engine, especially when you are stopped.

When the clutch went on my old Dakota, it started to squeal a lot, and if you grabbed the fan blade (with the engine off of course), and tried to wiggle it forward and back, it had a lot of movement. It shouldn't move much at all.

Most peoples Rams that I have asked or read about with regards to engine temps, say that the temp needle is one pointer width below the halfway mark on a Hemi, when it's warmed up.
Mine crept above it and kinda cycled up and down over a 5 min period from below to above the half way point.
It was always usually firmly just below.
I replaced a weeping radiator and a stuffed Tstat and all was good.
Hope this helps?
Al.
