Default Help deciding the good In-Dash GPS Navigation System

Hopefully you can help. I want to put an In-Dash GPS Navigation System (Double Din) in my 2006 Ram 1500 quad cab

I've been researching the past week and having a real hard time trying to decide which one to go with.

In order of interest/requirements-
-User Friendly - (for wife)
-Rear View Camera Option, preferable w/ split screen option - (for wife)
-Attractive Nav display/interface
-Good Stereo System functionality (adding at the same time all new door speakers w/amp, dual subwoofer box under rear bench seat with separate amp)
-DVD player for kids
-Ipod Control

so far I think I like the Eclipse AVN6620 with its low price, but a lot of reviews that the Nav is very unattractive/outdated look, and no categories for Points of Interest.

I also liked the Kenwood DNX8120 & Pioneer AVIC-Z3, wish the 8120 had split screen for rear camera but no big deal.

Your knowledge is greatly appreciated!
Brent

I bought the Chrysler/Dodge Mygig radio off EBay. It is an OEM radio so it is pretty user friendly. You can hook up a backup camera to it, and has Bluetooth for cell phones. It has a split screen, but I’m not sure if it has it while backing up (I don’t have a backup camera installed). It plays DVDs and if you have a rear screen you can listen to the radio/IPod/CD and your kids can watch a DVD. It has a hard drive so you can load music/video to it. A few things that you may not like though, since it is an OEM radio, it doesn’t have any inputs for speakers, subwoofers, amps, etc. And since you have an 06, you are going to have to buy an adapter for it to work because it runs off a different system than the newer Dodge/Chrysler vehicles. I got the adapter from coastaltech http://www.coastaletech.com/MYGIG_ADAPTER.htm. Also, it doesn’t have an IPod input (it does have an aux input), but you can get an a/v cable from coastaltech. It connects to the radio and has rca inputs to connect your iPod, video game system, etc. But you control it through the iPod, not the radio. And one last note is that the newer vehicles the time is saved in the computer, not the radio, so the clock will show 12:00 all the time.

Just installed the Pioneer Avic-f90bt 2 weeks ago. Love it! The layout is super easy. I like the fact it has a volume **** that's big enough to grab and not a teeny tiny button. Also, it has an SD slot in the front for music and pictures. By far the best unit out there for the money. It is Ipod friendly and includes the cable and the entire screen is one giant ipod. It's awesome! The f900bt is similar but only has 2v pre-outs and doesn't have the ipod cable. Plus for some reason the f90bt is actually cheaper???I bought mine from Sonic Electronics as their price and service is unbeatable. They gave me the install frame for an additional $4 and also the antenna adapter for free which you will need. Here is the link. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...VIC-F90BT.html

Also if you visit Avic4111.com it will show you how to bypass the unit so you can watch DVD's while moving as well as change your Destination on the GPD as well. You need to do more than just ground the park brake cable on these units.

thanks for the information!

the Mygig radio is very nice but a little pricey after everything.

Now after reading about the Avic-f90bt almost seems like a winner. Can't decide over the Kenwood DNX8120 though, really like the larger 7" screen it comes with, but $400 more.

DirtyDog- what exactly is the install frame you got from sonic? hopefully something to do with the 1.5 DIN to double DIN modification I have to do? my opening is not a full 4".

Default pioneer nav system

Not trying to hijack this thread, but does the Pioneer Avic-f90bt allow you to pause, fast forward and rewind the channel you are on in satellite mode and does it show the song and artist name in satellite mode? How hard is it to install if you have the infinity sound system? This is the unit I am thinking about getting to replace my REF unit that is so crappy.

Thanks,
Ray

Yes, yes, yes, yes and easy installation. You will need the Canbus wiring adapter for the Infinity sound. Everyone needs the antenna adapter as Chrysler has a funky plug
It also acts as a Giant Ipod screen and the controls on the screen are identical to that of an Ipod! Artists names FF/RR/pause...etc. It's a really nice unit! The F900bt is a step down for preout voltage and doesn't have the IPOD connector

I am getting my Panosonic Avic-F90BT installed tomorrow. I ordered the Can-Bus just because the salesman said I needed it ,but I dont think I will need it because I dont have the infinity sound system. So will see if I really need it. Its made by Scosche and the part number is CR03SR. Also got the Dash-kit made by Scoshe part number CR1289B the Antenna adapter you will need is made by SCOSCHE part number CRAB

If your going to install Sirius you will need the Pioneer Sirius bus interface part number CD-SB10 and Sirius Connect vechicle Tunner Part number SCC1

If you dont have the OME navigation in your truck you will need a new radio bezel with navigation that you can get that off Ebay. but I found it was just as cheap to get it from the dealer. The part number from the dealer for my 2008 Dodge RAM QC is 1-5KS701DHAB

I bought lot my parts off ebay to save money but you can buy them all from http://www.sonicelectronix.com

Pioneer AVIC-9OBT http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...VIC-F90BT.html

Ebay link same company and litter cheaper http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&it em=290273151778

Pioneer CB-SB10 and Siruis Scc1 http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...IUS+SC-C1.html

Can-BUS http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...e+CR03SR.html#

Dash Kit http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...+-+CR1289.html

Radio Bezel http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-Truck-Parts-Accessories__Dodge-Ram-06-08-SPORT-Navigation-Bezel-OEM-Mopar_W0QQitemZ400013910361QQadiZ2865QQadnZCarQ20Q 26Q20TruckQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQcmdZViewIt emQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=ite m400013910361&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3 A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318

One last thing if you want to do the Bypass here is the link to the site that explains what you need to do. Its very simple http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19689
Hope this info helps if anyone going to do this install.
