Default 1000 miles towing 5000 lbs.....

From Missouri to Florida in one long day. I have a 2003 Megacab with Hemi towing boat and trailer. I learned a few things.
Maintaining 70mph is a breeze, my navigation system says my speedo is dead on accurate. Gas mileage matched exactly with what the trip computer says and I am REALLY glad the price of gas has dropped such a lot. The truck is stock except for the ******* bed cover, bedrug and K&N CAI. I also changed my oil for Royal Purple before leaving. Running 89 Octane I averaged 10.5mpg.
It was a very comfortable journey and the engine never missed a beat. I will be coming back the other way without the boat and trailer this weekend so will report back on the mileage. I love this truck !!!!

I would prefer atleast 91 octane with towing for a trip like that, but that's just me with an '08 5.7L. I use 91 regularly as they reccomend with/without towing. However every penny you can save for a steady road trip is money in the bank! Highway travel isn't as stressful as stop & go and that is where the added octane is much needed. Thanks for posting up the info. It's nice to see real numbers and not unrealistic like some guys claim 24mpg.....lol What a crock. I could care less to impress others with my gas mileage. I cut down trees, not plant them if you get my drift. I like to know what to expect if it was me in your shoes.

Ridinghigh - Lake St Louis - 40 miles West of St Louis.
Im hoping to get the boat out Friday.
I was surprised at the cost of gas as I drove South. Still $2/gallon in Florida - it was about $1.55 in Missouri. I didnt use higher than 89 which is what I think Dodge recommends

I use 87 with zero knock or performance loss...compression is only 9.6:1 even the manual says it's "ok". But i'm also not moving the weight you are either...towing or not.

The owners manual recommends 89 octane for our hemi's, not 91.

The owners manual says that mid grade fuel is reccomended. I have always looked at 91 as midgrade. 93 as premium
With all the ethanol in the gas these days??????
