Default Muffler Swap and Y Pipe

I am planning on removing the stock tin can muffler on my 04 1500 Hemi. I am going to replace it with a Cherry Bomb Extreme , please no arguments. I have made up my mind and there are plenty of other places to argue mufflers. I was also planning on removing the rear resonator. My truck has the dual cat to a Y-pipe which inserts into the muffler then goes back to the resonator. Maybe I will get some pictures up this afternoon.

My question is:
Should I replace the stock exhaust Y pipe just before the muffler to get more flow? Or is it good enough. I only need to replace it if it yields more performance/gas as it requires more welding/fab at the shop. The truck already has 3" piping all through the exhaust starting at the cats if I am not mistaken, so it should flow pretty decent as is. Also, sticking with a 3" SI/SO muffler. I prefer the look of one exiting the rear.

You could always look into magnaflow cats with an aftermarket Y-Pipe.
I guess it all depends on what you are looking for as far as performance and what you are willing to spend.

The y pipe has nothing to do with emissions. Just don't touch the cats and you're good. Besides, the cats are already high flow to start with, so replacing them will do nothing for you.

The highly restrictive Y pipe is a big problem on our trucks. You should replace it.

Not restrictive on the 08. Not sure about the older ones.

i have a 2004 2500. my y looks really restrictive. its literally 2 pipes smashed together to fit into another single pipe. I will be replacing mine. im doing headers to the stock cats, then new y pipe back

Why not do true duals and cut each pipe off just behind the catalytic convertors?
