LSD!!! Which one and why?

Yes the stock LSD is a ticking time bomb! There are clips that are know for falling off and doing damage to the rear end! I hear a lot of people complain about this happening! You can do a search on it and you will find some answers from people who have personally had it happen!

these are $$$$$ and I would only reccomende them to avid offroaders, not really street friendly.
As for install, your better off paying a shop. Pinion depth needs to be specific. It's measured off the housing and ring gear. Ring gear also has to be measured for backlash. Both need specific tools. Micrometers and the knowledge of how to. Depending on mileage...Anything over 75kmi I would suggest changing all the bearings out as well as the seals. That would require specific tools as well to pull out the bearings. If you are using your stock carrier, you will need to have those bearings pulled off as they are pressed on. There is a spacer called the Crush Collar. this needs to be torqued within spec or you can tear apart your bearings or cause your pinion nut to come loose. it's a tight line to accomplish.It's a very grueling dirty job for the not-so experienced and can have all the ill effects of such. measurements and tolerances need to be precise or you will have noisy, clunky gears that will and can wear out prematurely.
If you have never gotten into depth with internals of your engine, i would highly suggest you pay someone to do this for you! When I say internals I mean physically take apart an engine and measure with tools an/or build an engine. Changing your plugs and wires doesn't count. Changing your catback doesn't count.

This is not really a job for amateurs.
You must have experience and specialist tools for doing this sort of work, as the potential for damaging thousands of dollars worth of parts is VERY high!
I myself paid for the install, as it's money in the bank so to speak (bad pun in these fiscally challenged days ha ha ha) if someone qualified to do it does the job.
I however, completely removed the entire back axle and ran it down to my installer.
He took his time and I re installed the axle and did a few other preventative maintainence tasks on it, while it was out.
I did indeed replace ALL the axle bearings, crush sleeves (as my pinion was already leaking) and everything I could in the hub. Even to the point of replacing the tone ring and all the nuts and bolts etc.
As I say, I wanted a thorough job doing on this and it was real hard to find a guy who knew what he was talking about on Dodge diffs, over here in the UK I can tell you.
The upshot of all this work, is the truck definately runs and drives smoother with no chatter or judder when pulling away from a stop like it used to.
Plus, I don't have that ticking timebomb of a stock LSD back there any more whoohooo!!!
