Default Ran over a concrete block last night

I ran over a concrete block that was in the middle of the road last night. From what I can tell it bent the cross arm bar real bad bent the drive shaft, dented the transmission pan. and crushed the cat and something else just pass the cat.

I have only had this truck for a week and it has less than 700 miles on it. I called the insurance company today and adjuster will get back with me on Monday. My question is I want the dealer to make all repairs so everything gets fix correctly but I do not want them to fix the exhaust. Will the insurance company let me take it somewhere else to fix the exhaust so I can put on the borla cat back system on or will the dealer put on the borla cat back system? I am sure the OME exhaust will run about the same cost from the dealer.

if your insurance is covering the damaged exhaused anyway, just let them fix it , it shouldnt be any more out of your pocket if you are already paying the deductible, then after its fixed just go have your borla system put on and keep your new oem exhaust for later or sell or put back on the truck when you sell it.

Most insurance companies will tell you that you have to get the truck fixed or you won't get your money and that they must give a check directly to the place that's fixing it. This is totally false! You have the right to take the money and get your truck fixed at your convenience or not even at all for that mater. I would get the dealers estimates to fix everything as it was before and compare that to your insurance companies estimate. I guarantee it will be much lower! Now, most body shops honor insurance quotes, but this isn't body damage, it's parts damage. 2 different things. If the amount of the insurance smpany adds up to your dealers amounts, I would demand the check be payable to you. Then you can get an aftermarket catback as you please with the money. Most aftermarket catbacks are going to be a lot cheaper than the stocker unit, so extra cash will be pocketed to help pay for the deductible. Sometimes the dealer may even be willing to write you back the difference in their own check to accomodate you, but you will have to talk to the service guy there.

Lots of insurance companies have started using used parts. i would strongly stand up to this since there will be no used part that has the comparable 700 miles on it. You do not have to downgrade because the insurance company wants to save money. Most of their policies stat that an "equally sufficient" used part can be used. A used part will not be covered under warranty and that should be your stance as well as there will be no exhaust that has that low of mileage to compare. Once used parts get installed, they will not be honored by your dealer for warranty reasons.
They probably will push for the used parts, and you don't have to accept for that reason.

sorry to hear that! $hit happens! I would talk with the dealer and see if you can pay the difference for the new exhaust?? The worst they can say is no!! The dealer has never said anything about my exhaust, but if they say it will void any warranty for your exhaust system, then it will void it if you get it done somewhere else anyway, so you might as well get it done at the same time!

Update: AAA Insurance gives me a check for the exhaust system and tranny pan so I can get the borla system installed at another place. Agent tells me the cross member bar to take it to the dealer and have them give a estimate and they can pay the dealer directly. So I ordered the borla from the local shop and took the truck to the dealer where I bought the truck. The dealer calls me today and says the crossmember bar that is bent is part of the frame and the truck will need a need frame. Now I can only hope the insurance company will total this truck but I dont think I am going to get that lucky.
