Default Intake tube only

Has anyone tried to fab up just a replacement intake tube, to replace the hemi hat, but retained the factory air box?

I know AIRAID makes a tube, but it's $100, just for the stinkin' tube!

I've seen a few intake kits on ebay, and I was wondering if any of them would fit up.

Has anyone else done this?

I've had a few incidents with running through water that just give me concern to run an open filter, not to mention drawing in heat from under the hood.

Thanks all!

I didn't know that, I'll have to check out my local one.

Yeah, I agree, which is why I refuse to pay $115 for the AIRAID. I've just heard that replacing the hemi hat is a decent mod for the 5.7. I'm planning on getting a new muffler and y-pipe soon, so I wanted to complement that.

my buddy put an airaid in his wrangler and in my opinion the airaid was a really cheap intake material wise for the amount of money he paid. It does the job but but its cheap plastic and flimsy metal.

the plastic is better than the chrome intake tubes in my opinion. retains heat better and doesnt look cheasy. most of the intakes all use the same type of poly-resin plastics. yes thay are thin but very durable and flow great. the airraid is kind of a waste for $100 getting just a tube though. i almost did it but then got a real good deal on my volant for my 4.7l. paid $220ish shipped. was well worth it too.

Yep, the plastic is much better than the chrome heat sink type. Cooler is better and the plastic will not transfer heat like the chrome ones do.

I got this one on eBay and added a real K&N filter to it. To my surprise, the metal does not get very hot at all.....it's not too thick, so maybe that is why....

I fabbed up a intake with black pvc pipe. Went from 4 inch and tapered down to 3 entering the TB. Its not hard, just finding the right couplers can be a pain but same form and function as a 150.00 intake for less than half the price

$100 is the cheapest you'll find and despite what some say on here it is well made....all the intake brands use the same plastics. Sure you can pay $75 for a bad fitting metal tube and the cheapest cone filter ever made...i'd persoannly rather use a POS fram filter than that thing.
