Need quick answer...need to buy now
The only way for the floor shifter to truly be a manual is if you lock in the hubs. If not, then it's still electric. The little **** mostly would be for convenience. Reaching on the dash is much easier than reaching down onto the floor.
Hope you enjoy it, be sure to post up some pictures sometime.

Got the new truck but....
When I got there, they had a 2500 Mega Cab SXT. The truck I originally started this post for was an 3500 SXT. So, there I was faced with a decision. In the end, I went with the 2500 Mega ...just check out the pic and you'll see why. I have another daughter and we like to take Sunday drives and will be going to Michigan this winter so the 4x4 will come in handy. This truck is a perfect blend between family and rugged vehicle that can anything.
so...
2008 2500
CTD 6.7
Mega
4x4
SXT
Limited Slip
Electronic shift into 4wd (still agree with the others that manual leaves less to break).
Traded in my 2008 2500 CTD 2WD, Big Horn Quad Cab so I lost the amenities but gained the things you can never add.
Hopefully, you guys agree that this is an awesome truck...but, in the end, its about what makes me happy...else why buy it?
Thanks again for all your help.

The '03 and up solid axel trucks have no axel disconnect. The whole front end turns all the time. The T-case is all that differentiates between two and four wheel drive.
Awesome truck!!!!! Truly a monster. If you are going to do some true 4-wheeling, make sure you get some lockers for it. At least for the rear if you don't do both. Again, super nice truck, i'm truly jellllllllous!

It made sense on paper and the wife signed off...the rest is history (recent as it may be).
One other thing, my old 2008 2500 was a manual. There is a post where I talk about how you really gotta love manual drive in these trucks cause it can be tedious. I liked the raw feeling of being directly attached to the transmission but, for me, it just got old to shift...especially with such high torque at low RPM vehicle.
Lets just say I learned the hard way and paid for an impulsive purchase of the first truck. I could have never done this if these things were going for what they used to.
I have loved Dodge Heavy Duties for a long time but they were just out of range. I consider myself very lucky to have been able to get what I have...the truck is truly "perfect" in my eyes.
Thanks for the compliments on the truck.

Also, do you recommend lockers in front?
What brand? Easy to install?
Thanks.
