It has limited slip in the back but from what I understand limited slip is a compromise between standard diff and lockers. Is this right?
Also, do you recommend lockers in front?
What brand? Easy to install?
Thanks.
Torqued!!
Correct, LSD's use clutch packs. If one tire starts slipping, the clutching will engage to a certain degree to transfer power to the opposite side. Probably the most user friendly lockers are magnetic, or electric. Once installed, they are always open. Then with the push of a button, they are locked. So for street driving, you can have open diffs. Then, when you hit the trail you're locked.
Lockers can be done in your garage, but you need a couple of specialized tools, and it's really not for a first timer. Also, good lockers will run you 500-600 for each locker. Then labor and setup if you have them installed (about 200-300 per diff).
If you're not going to be hitting the trails that often, you should be fine with your current setup. Just enjoy the ride, and make sure to carry some tools (HI-lift, shovels, straps, come-a-long, etc) when you're offroading.
Actually, I found my quad cab to be lacking for what I needed. I have 2 kids, one is still facing backwards in the seat. I started looking at trucks for the 4x4 for sure but only found one that would have been a "good deal" just to move up to 4x4. But when I found this megacab 4x4 for the price, I was happy.
I know what you mean. I have the quad cab as well, and with my wife and two kids, it's tuff to fit everything we need inside. Enjoy...
