4.7 performance
I know this topic has been visited several times and I have read a ton of threads talking about this however I still can't seem to pinpoint what really works and whats a waste of time and money.
Here's the history:
Let me begin by saying that this is my 6th Ram since the 94 body change. I did my homework and ordered this truck in April 2006 with every option "I" wanted (expect the NAV... it wasn't available at the time I placed my order)
Prior to going in and ordering my truck I rented a 2005 4.7 to see if that engine choice was going to be sufficient enough for my lead foot or if I needed the Hemi. The rental seemed very spunky and ok for my driving style.... Well I got my truck in June 06 and was immediately disappointed with the power it provided compared to the 05 I had rented. It was sluggish from a dead stop and seemed to shift excessively sometimes and other times it would upshift way to early IMO and the RPM's were way below the powerband making it lug. Dealer has checked it and tell me it is running as it should. The only difference between mine and the rental was I wanted the Chrome 20's (the 05 had 17's) and I ordered the 5 speed auto (the 05 had a 4 speed auto) I guess those two differences were enough to make mine perform noticeably worse.
Well my truck is now getting close to the end of the three year warranty (although it's way below mileage) and I'm looking to make some changes to make it more spunky...
I've looked at the STS turbo but they don't offer a direct kit for the 4.7 so I've been hesitant to go that route so I wanted to see what others have done that has worked. I don't want to get into a high dollar try this and try that thing... I want to buy something and be done with it.
I've looked at superchargers but they are too expensive for my blood.
I'd like to find some stuff that works and stay under the $2000 price range.
I was thinking something like a performance computer, maybe go to larger injectors, larger throttle body, cams, I don't know whats works on these trucks....
I just want great off the line power. I don't care about top end as I don't go 100 mph in it
When I had my 2000 I did the Mopar performance computer, higher stall converter, larger throttle body and Flowmaster exhaust.... that livened it up tremendously
What are your thoughts?
Thanks guys!
BTW, I drove a 2009 the other day and I have to say it is one hell of a truck! VERY FAST! But NOT worth $47,000.
might buy one if the economy improves and they discount them .

Airram on this board has a pretty heavily modded 4.7...he'll probably chime in. Here's a link to the site http://www.airram.com/
Are you planning on doing the work yourself? If you don't that 2k won't go too far...cams tune and maybe a few bolt-ons. To get the most out of cams you'll want headers but that'll take 1/4 of your money right off the bat...and that's if you do the install.

My brother is a tech at the Dodge dealer I bought the truck from.... He will eagerly do anything I need to it free of charge. But honestly I can do most of it myself.
He's given me his two sense on what I should do (Supercharger) however his pockets are much deeper then mine lol. He recently built a couple unbelievably fast cars (Turbo Neon and his daily driver a BMW 325I) so I'm confident he can turn my truck around if I provide the right stuff.
I'll check out that link and thanks again. I'm looking forward to this project.
Do you know anywhere online that offers them?
If you were thinking of an STS, the hemi kit with GT35 or so turbo would be good. Use SCTflash.com tuning to tune it. Looks like you're in Florida, KRC Performance has put those STS kits on about everything. Even 6 cylinders.

I got turned on to the STS when My brother put one on his old LS-1 WS6 Trans Am. It was quite impressive. I spoke with them at STS and they recommended I use the "Universal" kit they offer. I've considered it but really wanted to get more details before jumping into that turbo ring. I didn't have a source for tuning when I looked before.
I appreciate the info. I'll check into the SCT tuning.

i would say if you do not do the turbo.
cai, tuner, gears, throttle body, headers, new y-pipe(cause stock one is terrible),cams and efan. that should unleahs some good power for a decent price.
efan $300
cai $250
tuner $375
gear $400ish
headers $500
y-pipe $25-$150 ( magnaflow sells a real nice 2.5 in to 3 inch out for $26 but its not a
weld right in plcae of old one type of pipe)
cams $300-$400ish
throttle body $300
all adds upo to a little over $2100 but i didnt get exact prices. because your doing all the work it save syou alot of money in installs doing gears and cams. so you can get alot more for your $$$$. goodluck and let us know which route you choose.

I'm either going to do the turbo or I was thinking of 4.56 gears (gotta get more info on recalibrating the pcm) with the Clear cover (because they look cool lol) Larger throttle body, JBA shorty headers, Volant cold air intake, and relocating the IAT sensor with the power wire, all from AIRRAM.com
I am waiting for a reply from their site on the correct tuner for my truck..... I was confused on which one was actually for my 06 4.7.
I'll keep updating this thread with how it's going. I finally paid off my Discover so here we go again lol.
I appreciate those of you that have chimed in with your thoughts.
