Factory tint and police problems
I ain't on welfare and I got a job and a woman and a few teeth left!!
I live by 2 very simple rules:
1. Don't give a cop ANY excuse to pull you over. Use your blinkers at all times.
2. I know it may be hot where you live, but having your front windows rolled down maybe 75% of the way and your seat belt on helps. I live in Louisiana and (no offense to black people), but officers seeing a white person driving cautiously with their seatbelt, makes them feel safer( I was told this by a buddy in the force).
Yeah, not all cops are ******, some are actually decent guys, but they really should have better things to do than cracking down on tint. People really do have medical problems, ie; skin issues, eye problems and I think laws against tint should be thrown out all together. Who are we hurting by having a little film on the windows? Priorities.

Windshield
Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side Windows
Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows
Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window
Any darkness can be used.
Thats iowa. Although I know people with darker front windows and the cops don't seem to enforce it as much here.
For all those who don't like cops....
Grow *****. Then you can get out of tickets.
I've gotten two tickets (speeding) and I deserved them. But that's not bad considering I've probably been pulled over 15-20 times. I did 27 over the limit...and he didn't give me a ticket. Thank God!

lol one long a** thread..bottom line, go to the court house on the date of your court appearance if you want to fight the fine if you didn't already (the officer who pulled you over will most likely not show, but not guaranteed..this isn't a huge traffic violation) the judge may just throw the case out as there are bigger fish to fry out there IMO (ESPECIALLY if its on the rear or back windows, the judge will throw it out depending on your state and tint laws)
- if its on the back windows (depending on your local laws which have probably been specified in this thread your state may not require a % of light let through the back and rear windows), and if the cop wrote your buddy up for tint on the back windows something else is going on

Actually there are states that are very strict on their tint laws. The manufacturer just cannot sell a vehicle in that specific state, but nothing stops people or dealers from moving cars across the globe.
Virginia Laws are just that. 35% HERE
BUT, I'm pretty sure Va is like NY. That applies to PASSENGER CARS only and they have an additional set of tint Laws for trucks or transportation vehicles. What they are? Do a search. Took me 3 sec's to find the above.
I live in Norfolk Virginia. I recently tinted my whole truck and researched everything to make sure it was legal before I paid for it. As long as you drive a Truck/SUV/Van you are allowed to have any window behind the front driver's side and passenger side windows completely blacked out. You could even paint over the window as long as you have two working side mirrors. Cars are only allowed 35% tint on rear windows. The front windows of any vehicle are only allowed 50% tinting which is pretty damn light. The windshield may only have a 50% 6" stripe at the top tinted. The rest must be clear. Bring in a copy of the law, take a picture of your vehicle in the sunlight from inside and outside the vehicle and show the judge. He should throw the case out.
As far as other windows it's 50% front and anything of the rear of any vehicle classified as a MPV which my understanding is that extended cab trucks are but I can't confirm this 100%. You still have to follow the 50% laws on the front.
On passenger cars and vehicles not considered MPV's the law is 50% front and 35% rear.
haha wow, this was a long time ago. Yea he went to court and the ticket was dropped because the cop never filed the paperwork in time. He still doesn't know if the ticket would have had any bearing but oh well.
I live in Wa now, (not much better) but it's no virginia. Like it here much better.
