Help Threw a Rod

Place a large magnet in front of the drain hole right on the oil pan when you drain the oil so that the metal shavings and any metal parts stay inside when your draining. I would turn the engine over a few times to get the oil to the top of the engine to wash away and mix with the old oil up in the cylinder heads, but make sure you unhook the plug wires so it doesn't start up.
Go to the dealer first and if they for some reason weasel out of it, get the insurance company involved and trust me, they don't want to pay if they don't have to so they will fight the dealership for you. Plus you won't have to pay the deductible for your insurance.

He's got insurance, he should use it or pay the repair bill himself. No way the dealer should absorb the repair if HE is the person that caused the damage.
A rod isnt gonna leave a hole only 1" - 1 1/2", you might of had a piece come out, if the hole is that small.. When I put a rod through(Not in my Truck) it was a big hole 3"+ and i had a nice new oil Breather in the side of the Block too..
best way to know is get under it drop the pan and take a Look..

that small of a hole just seems to be something else. and usually when you do some serious internal damage the motor isn't going to be running all too well with only a slight knock.. that bitch is going to be making some major noise.
if you weren't doing anything stupid take it to the dealer. if you were driving it through huge puddles at decent speed just for fun then take this as the age old "you gotta pay to play"

Drop the pan and take some picks of the hole and the internals and post them up. I'll agree that a rod would leave more than a 1" hole. Also how much water is too much? If it had major water damage I dont think that it would start or even drive for that matter. And if you have water in your engine at least get it drained asap, and dont let it sit cause that will become a nightmare.
It hydrolocked, plain and simple. Pushed the rod onto the block. May not have exited all together, but none the less, the engine is toast.
Your insurance should cover it. Don't try to scam a dealer, it will backfires on you. Call your insurance company and tell them what happened. They will either send an adjuster or have you take it to the dealer and will deal with them directly.
Just be honest and it will should work out for the best.

i gotta wonder if it's something with the placement of the air intake on the hemi's or what. but we get a lot of posts on this forum about hydrolocked hemi's... either people just don't know what amount of water is too much or something...
I wonder if having a CAI is the problem?
Did this particular truck have a CAI or the stock air box?
Al.
