well thanks for just bursting my little bubble there dirtydog. this will be dual set up no y pipe what so ever. will go from cats back to x-pipe then 2 magnaflow mufflers out to 4" tips. ought to sound rather nice. feejay the guy uped my price when i asked about the x-pipe, so with tax and all looking at $561.75. i'm trying to find the guy that used to do my exhaust when i was younger, he would always cut me hell-a-of deal on exhaust work. would also remove the cats on older trucks.

I doubt anyone will touch newer cats this day in age as that is not only state, but Federal offense for inspection stations that are burdened to mandate them. I have heard the Dodge cats are basically a high flow, so removing them won't gain much. I know that high flow cats vs no cats on my cobra wa only 6hp difference when I was putting down 473rwhp. That gain would be much less for less hp output.
I think on my 08, the y-pipe joins just before the cat??? Not 100% though.

this is true, cause the one from magnaflow was like $600 or $700 i think. Dirty i dang sure am not going to cut the cats off of my new truck not till it gets really old. i only did that on my 88' s-10 w/ the tpi. But you see I live in SW GA and there are no emission check points or vehicle inspections for that matter. So if you want to run str. pipe and have the loudest and crapiest sounding z71 in town you can. (Bunch a dumb kids)

dirtydog you should have teh same exhaust setup as the previous rams. usually exhaust manifold then cat on each side then mid-pipes to the y-pipe. cats are usually before the y-pipe on the rams. i cant see them changing that setup.
i dont know hwy they are called catback systems because they arent coming from the cat. they are coming from the y-pipe area back. getting rid of that stock y was the best thing ever. its soo restrictive.......

the y pipe is running into the muffler so its is after the cats. anything is better than stock. even though it will be 2-1/2" from 3" it will still flow better than what i have now.

The 08 is different form most others. It does use a pair of high flow converters from a different supplier then 07-back Hemi's and the Y is after the converters like most others. There is no front resonator on the 08 just a muffler and rear resonator.
My stock system flows pretty darn good by looking at the morning condensation coming out.
There is room for flow improvement at the front Y where is is partially crimped to put the two into one. I am going to go with the Magnaflow cat-back and leave it at that when the kit for the 08 is finally released. It is all stainless and will last the life of the truck, unlike aluminized pipe which is good for 5 to 7 years before the seam rusts away.
Here is the y in question:

No front resonator :
