Exhaust Help/Opinions
Hey all, so i have a completely stock 2008 1500 5.7 QC SB Bighorn edition Ram. I am looking for some advice/opinions/reviews on the exhaust systems that are out there. I have looked at the Flowmaster, magnaflow and gibson systems so far....
1. Is there any other decently priced systems i should be looking at?
2. Any opinions as to which one sounds or performs better...
3. Better to buy these systems or have someone build a custom system?
Basically what are your opinions on exhausts for the truck... (pics of yours would help a lot too)

There's chambered mufflers and straight-through mufflers...the difference is huge in the performance department. Straight-throughs outflow chambers around 2 to 1...they sound good but chambered muffler can sound better and there's more tone variation. And remember..the shorter the muffler the louder the sound.
If you buy a pre-made catback you'll have to decide on polished stainless steel or aluminized...stainless lasts longer but costs more. The pre-made catbacks are all bolt-on so basic hand tools and you're set for install. Just so you know the factory exhaust is stainless and 3". If you have a shop fab a system for you they'll use aluminized...so you'll be getting rid of stainless for aluminized.
Also the stock exhaust has 1 or 2 resonators depending on year and truck configuration...removing them will make it louder and you'l get some resonation from the MDS. The resonators look like little mufflers...one is by the tailpipe and if you have another it'll be in front of the muffler about 1/4 the size of the muffler.

when you take your stock off drive it around the block with just the manifolds and cats. It is like sticking your ear against a harley exhaust pipe. I put aobut 100 miles on my truck like that just to annoy people. I'd pull up beside people blasting there music and hold it at about 3k. I probably pissed off a couple hundred people that day, but I had fun.

I like the price of that setup from ebay but the pipe bending looks like it is going to hinder the exhaust more than the stock system. I was leaning towards the magnaflow..... As for driving it with the exhaust off, I had a 71 GTO with a built 6.6L and had 3" strait pipes on it, so i am really familiar with making people angry by setting off every single car alarm... anyone put anything more than just a cat back system on?
