Default Castrol edge virgin results from lab..

A guy on another forum got some results back from a virgin sample of castrol edge sent to blackstone...he compares it to amsoil to show the results. Just thought i'd share for those that are curious..

"OK so for $8 bucks a quart let's see what we are getting here......I'll compare it to a $8 Amsoil (retail no PC discount)....

Castrol Edge..............Amsoil.....What it is used for
Silicon 3.1.................2.3.........anti foaming agent
Potassium 0...............0............background residual
Boron 66...................19..detergents, dispersant, extreme pressure add
Barium 0...................0.3..........same as above
Magnesium 12...........12............same as above

This is one stout add pack and has the Lubrizol signature all over it. Looks like a GRPIII for sure...far better numbers than Mobil1 for sure...so bottom line is this is one serious oil guys.......now of course we have to see it perform.....UOA's forthcoming......by the way this is the Edge 10-30 that was run through the lab....." There was just a report posted up the other day about Amsoil Vs. Mobil 1 in viscosity breakdown. I believe Hammer posted the link?? It showed Amsoil had better wearing agents than Mobil 1, but Amsoil turned into 20w-40 all way from 5w-20 or there abouts?
Hammer said it would be wise for MDS owners to stay away from Amsoil for that reason.

can someone put those stats into laymans terms for those of us who might not fully understand it?

Sure, don't waste your money on exotic oils. Use Mopar oil and filter at the recommended intervals and your engine will live a long happy life.

how many of you are running synthetic? whats a full oil change cost?

PS: jonnymagnum...who authorized that kyle busch logo...its all about Burton baby!!!

I use penz platinum with a mobil filter...5 qt jug is $23 at walmart, $10 for two more qts and $10 for the filter. Sometimes i'll buy two 5 qt jugs and that'll save me a little money on the next couple oil changes...which would be $33 for the second change and then $38 for the third.

yea i get the 5 qt castrol jugs too and a full change in $15. i want to try the castol edge but it would be a $60 oil change, unless they put that in the jugs too.
