What are you experiences with other trucks?
Well my dad and I were never ford fans but dad ended up with an 05 ford f350 king ranch for a company truck and we love it. other that the headgaskets that went out it has been really reliable and with a few mods we have it running 14.4 in the 1/4 @ 94 mph. dad has a mid life crisis car which is a 2002 BMW M5 which is an unbelievable peice of engineering i mean it cruises along at 100+ mph is perfectly serene and gets epic mileage. We usually have had GM products and have loved them in the past and still do the family cruiser denali xl is a sweet ride and the LQ9 6.0 V-8 is a real champ. My sisters have an old 1992 1500 chevy with 170K+ miles on it and its still running strong requiring only normal wear items as it ages. then I was the different member who introduced mopar to the skaley family lineup. I had owned a 2005 TJ when I was in highschool and other than eating a rear transfercase seal it was stone cold reliable. then i bought my dodge used and traded the jeep to pay for college and once again she has been reliable to both me and the previous owner putting up 125K miles trouble free. so overall my family and i have had good luck with all the vehicles we currently own or have owned recently.
i grew up around ford vans, thats what we always had mainly for towing and room for us kids. first truck was a ford, then a chevy, then a ford, then a 97 dodge before this one. cant really say any of them were really bad, they all took their fair share of abuse. I really liked the 97 XC ram,but i needed more room so i ended up with the 04.
I could write a book. In order of ownership: 1973 Jeep J-10, 1984 Ford F250 Diesel, 1985 Nissan KingCab, 1987 Isuzu P'up, 1994 Nissan KingCab, 1997 Ford F150, 1998 Dodge RCSB 1500 5.9, 2002 Chevy Z71, 2004 Dodge QCSB Hemi.
Every one of them a 4x4 but the Isuzu, most lifted with big meats. Only one of them ever left me on the side of the road was the '97 Ford, cracked piston with only 14k miles on it...
Now if someone wanted to start a thread in another section, I can come up with just as many SUVs I've owned, mostly Jeep Wranglers and Grand Cherokees...

I've had two 92 GMC 4x4's and loved them. They were easy to maintain and you could practically build the entire truck from the in-stock inventory at any parts store. I sold my last one 2 years ago with barely 100k miles only so my customers would see me in a new truck instead of a 15+yr old one.
The 350 TBI made ok power and plenty of torque, especially off idle. I'm sure it'd beat my current truck through first gear. It had enough mods to keep it useful for towing the occasional car or lawn mower.

well our Drive way looks like a damn used car lot right now
1. 2004 Ford F-350 6.0 Powerstroke
2. 2008 Chevy Avalanche LT3 5.3L
3. 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L
4. 1997 Dodge Ram 3500 5.9 Cummins
5. 1993 Ford F-350 460 5 speed
I dont have any major issues with the ones we have, but there were some minor ones.
2004 Ford- Blown head gasket after towing 24,000 lbs ( was under warranty so that was good)
1993 ford- Clutch turned int a grenade about three months ago to avoid a wreck was down shifted and it totally detonated on itself. In the process of rebuilding it, need to rework the sliders in the tranny.
2008 Chevy- Nothing wrong with it (YET) Personally I am not really impressed with chevy's 5.3 motor. The 6.0 isnt too bad though.
I am looking at buying at new dodge here in a couple of months so based on what we already own, It will still be a Dodge. My whole family is split on makes, but we all agree that each of their own strengths and weaknesses.
We chose the Ford since we regularly tow well over 24,000lbs. That is the problem with Dodge, the motor is there, but the frame cant handle it, but since my truck is my daily driver, I dont worry about it. I like being able to out run the occasinal ricer every now and then

1) 1994 Chrysler Lebaron GTC - Fuel Pump went out
2) 1998 Dodge Dakota 5.2 v8 4x4 xcab - Transmission was toast at 98k
3) 2001 Grand Am GT - Headgasket
4) 1998 Dodge Ram 5.9 v8 4x4 xcab - Transmission went out at 100k, Plenum was leaking as well as a bad timing cover and leaky crank case
5) 2004 Ram QC 4x4 Laramie - EGR valve, which i fixed and the power steering leak which was fixed at the cost of a $1 hose clamp
Of all the vehicles in the family the chevys we have had have been the most reliable

I was a Ford truck guy for many years. Had an 88 Ranger, then a 95 F-150. both were great trucks, but... each with thier problems.
the Ranger had great power, and took a beating. But it had an issue with the drive shaft slip yoke. the dealer and a transmission shop could not fix it. At highway speeds it would virbrate when you let off the gas, after a while it would wear out the u-joint.
The F-150 had the 5.0L, 5sp, 4x4. it was a decent truck, a tad under powered, and the previous owner beat the living snot out of it.
It also had the rubber gasket on the oil pan that bulged out over a period of time, causing it to leak. Cost about $550 to get it replaced since the cross member was in the way. then the rear pinion seal started to leak, and 2nd gear synchros were gone.
Otherwise the fit and finish on both trucks were great.
then I had a 98 RAM, and lets just say I really missed my Fords for the year or so I had it.
hoping to keep this 06 Ram for a while. I am making sure I do all the schedule oil changes/maint to it. So far I am still enjoying my HEMImoon.

my last truck was a 96 ram 2500. i put it through hell, and one night finally killed it at the railroad cuts not too far from where i live now, we jumped some traintracks and not too long after i caught it on fire due to some bad wiring . but i was impressed it held together all the way to the dealership to trade it in...
the best truck ive had since my new ram was my 95 nissan P/U. ran strong with 224,000 miles on the ticker, traded it for a camaro.
