What are you experiences with other trucks?
Let me start off by saying NO brand bashing in this thread please i would just like to hear your opinions on other brands that you have owned or tried compared to your dodge. Pros vs Cons.
Me? well i drive (on occasion) a 2000 ford explorer sport trac with a 4L DOHC v6. We (family) have pushed this thing to and over its limit. It has had 2 trannies (under warranty) go on it, because we were towing a 24 ft cruiser boat on a 5 hour trip (up north so big hills to climb). Engine runs strong still only things that have gone wrong with this thing is the axle seals, transfer case is making a funny noise (think one set of tires either front or rear were slightly bigger than the other so in 4x4 the clutch inside the transfer case would slip every so many tire rotations). the trannies as mentioned, DRL unit blew, leaf springs are saggin and thats all i can think of.
and for my dodge, I (since i have owned it only like 10,000 miles) have had nothing wrong. (it has 78 and change on it)

We've been based around Jeeps mostly. Cherokees were always pretty solid for us. My dad now has an 00 Sierra 5.3. Decent motor with good reputation. The truck has some kind of weird clunking in the rear end since he got it with 30k. It did not respond well transmission wise to a Diablo tune and has needed a fuel pressure regulator and now probably a fuel level sensor. Also idler arm/pitman arm. Otherwise its loaded inside and until he put that Revo's on he was getting 19mpg highway.
We had a 98 Expedition for 10 years and no issues with 140k on it except the trans was starting to slip and slam/hunt for gears, it needed an EGR valve, heater core and not much else. For some reason it like to EAT swaybar links. It was all stock and aligned but would break a link about once a year.

2004 f.250 powerstrock diesel spit 2 injectors with only 36,000 miles on it so it got traded in for a ...
2006 f.350 powerstrock diesel spit a turbo a oil pump and 3 injectors and has 26,000 miles on it ( but its all under warranty and we only use it too pull are 40ft. fith wheel trailer)
but he was a 2005 f.150 for a work truck that his company gave him and that has had 97,000 with out a problem
o, mom drives a POS 2005 nissan pathfinder (theres most likely a shorter list on what has not been replaced)

Powersmokes are either rock solid or total junk. You hear just as many stories about them lasting 300k as you do with them blowing turbos/injectors and gelling up. The 6.0 is junk.. guys are really chasing back down the 7.3's.
My brother has a 94 2500 12v CTD.. he beats the bloody hell out of it and it still runs great with 250k on it. Bad glow plugs, straight piped exhaust, fuel plate,intake.. it still starts up and he screams out every morning.

i agree with slideways, the 7.3 is a lot better than the 6.0 and 6.4 as far as durability. Have a friend from our local dealership who is fed up with the new 6.4L,lol. As for the cummins, its no comparison. Its the only medium service engine in the group, all the others are listed as light duty. Like the pre- new body style ford, but would have to say if i had a ford diesel would be a 7.3L pre 6.0.
Ive got a 2000 Silverado 4x4. The drivetrain is still perfect at 200k but the rest of the truck is just coming apart. Ive also got a 91 F150 4x4 that has been put thru heck since I ordered it new. Both trucks have over 200k.
To be honest Ive only really had 2 lemons in fullsize or midsize trucks. One was an 88 F150 and the other was a 98 Ram 4x4. One common thread among all these trucks is that NONE of them have been automatics. Ive had 4 new fullsize Fords, a Ranger, 2 explorers, 2 full size Chevrolets, and 2 Rams. I try to only buy American and I only buy trucks with clutch pedals. I dunno what Ill do when it comes time to buy new again...Im hoping this Ram will last at least 10 years.
For some reason the Big 3 have completely alienated the core truck buyers and went to the folks who want a car with a 4wd system and a nice easy automatic tranny.
