Four by Four Problem
Well Its not really the 4x4 thats the problem actually..We recently got alot of snow here so I had the truck in 4x4 all morning, no problem. After driving a couple of miles on snow packed roads, however, I had trouble shifting out of four wheel. When the truck is in 4x4, there is absolutely no noise. When I shift out of 4x4 the hear almost like a clicking noise. Its like a crunching, or a rubbing. It almost sounds like when a stick or a playing card is being run against the spinning spokes of a bicycle wheel, but not exactly. Its almost like the hubs wont disengauge? I have a 03 Ram quadcab with a manual shift transfer case, and auto hubs. Hey any help is very much appreciated guys! Thanks alot!

How fast are you traveling when you shift? Are you using 4 HI or 4 LO?
A manual shift transfer case is a direct link to the transfer case, and the hubs are always engaged to my knowledge. If you pull it out of 4wd and into 2wd, it's out of 4wd - unlike an electronic one. The front driveshaft will just be turning freely. If you're hearing noises, it could be something else.

Well I the problem was shifting from four HI to two HI. I was traveling anywhere from 5-30 miles an hour when shifting. I tried putting it into neutral and four LO and then all the way back to two HI, but as long as it is in two HI it makes the noise. I tried running it in reverse for awhile while in two HI to dis engauge the hubs, as that is what I had to do with the Bronco, but it did not work. Could it be ice?
