Default rusting bumper

I have a 06 ram 1500 slt quad cab 4x4 with 54k miles. Tonight I was looking under the rear bumper to find a place to mount aux reverse lights. I have (2) 55 watt lamps I want to add with a switch on the dash. I have a cap and the factory lights just don't give enough light to see. When I was under there I found out that my chromed bumper is rusting from the underside. I know the body has a 100k mile rust out warranty. Should I fight and try to get a new bumper? Is this a covered item?

Man, your part of the country is obviously not water free! More than likely, you could probably crawl underneath your truck and immediately chit your pants at the rust you would see.
If its not that bad, just get your self a mother's power ball and some chrome polish/ rust remover, and polish the hell out of it.
I have a pretty good sized rear bumper on mine, and every few months or so I have to polish it to keep the rust spots from forming.

rear bumpers rust alot faster on trucks up where the snow flies because the tires throw all the salt into and onto the rear bumper. like everyone else said buff it off or sand it and paint it. i go through the same thing every spring.

I think you'll have trouble getting them to replace the bumper because of a rust spot on the bottom. From what I've heard, the part needs to be basically falling apart from rust before they will do anything. I guess it's worth a try, but don't hold your breath, and be ready for a fight.

when you say get some mothers, do you mean actual moms to do the work for you?

the salt and road solvent really does a number on unprotected areas here in NEPA. on all my trucks i allways wire brush/sand and paint the inside of the bumpers, frame and other effected areas.
