Default What parts do you stock?

Hi. New here. Any of you guys(gals) started stocking up on parts for your favourite truck, just in case? What do I mean by that? Well, there are several reasons.

First is the turmoil surrounding the car market. Some brands could go under, or be discarded for any reason. Examples: Lada, Isuzu, and even Hyundai whose dealerships seemed to disappear in my area for a while (back in the previous recession, in the 1990's).

Secondly, do you intend to keep your vehicle for a long time? I also collect older Jeeps, and parts aren't easy to come by. Car makers are only required to keep parts available for a period of 10 years. How about he plain issue of availability. You think it's funny? Someone I know bought a 2008 Suburban and the BCU gave up on him. Guess what: GM doesn't stock up this part, it has to be ordered from the electronics equipment manufacturer, who BUILDS IT AT THAT TIME! Remember that a manufacturer needs revenue to be able to stock up parts.

Thirdly, car makers aren't making money on vehicle sales right now, a possible indication of the future trend. Now, what will they turn to for revenue? Right, parts. In Europe, consumers are screaming because car makers have increased parts prices (especially body parts) in proportions ranging from 75-150%. Same could happen here.

Any suggestions for parts worth setting aside, anyone?

first of all, welcome to DF!
as for stocking up on parts, i don't think Mopar parts is going anywhere soon, theyre parts are more expensive but the aftermarket is so big for foreign and domestic vehicles i dont think there are going to be any problems getting a part when i need it.
ive never heard of Lada, nor do i think most people have around here, im guessing your from Canada or Europe given your spelling of favorite. even if mopar parts went under, the aftermarket is so big...............
ive never heard of anyone stocking up on parts that they dont need.......

The only part I "stock up on" is oil filters. That's 'cause I got K&Ns for a bit over $10 shipped. Since I have two Hemis, I have about a three-year stock of filters. I plan to keep the 300 forever. The Ram may get traded on an '11 in '13.

Nothing at all. As soon as I stocked up on a bunch of stuff, it would get hit and totaled and my new truck would probably take different parts!!

I was recently talking to the Mopar parts guy at the dealership here in Ontario and he was saying that the warehouse in Toronto and Quebec are *******ly empty. He said there is a huge decline in stock all over N.A. and they are having trouble getting parts for certain vehicles to repair them. Doesnt surprise me. Dodge wants to make their financial situation look alot more positive.

Even if Chrysler goes bye-bye, too many of these trucks on the road for the aftermarket to dry up. Besides, do you actually think Mopar is making these parts? The Mopar CAI is contracted through AEM and is really a Brute Force at twice the money, and so on down the line.
I only stock a spare of things I'm likely to need, EGR valve, O2 sensor, that kinda stuff. Although when I go up from my 35" to 37" tires, I'm probably going to make room for a spare CV axle in the tool box. Something tells me I'm gonna have to do a swap in the field at some point...

well the parts may not be as much as ford or chevy but there are enough dodges on the road where you could probably head to a junkyard and find something
oh yeah, i have heard of Lada. i think that they are some Russian car manufacturer. Whats so funny about them is that they have been making the same cars for over 20 years with out doing anything to them. Even the newest Ladas that roll out the factory still dont have basic safety features
