Default Magnaflow Cat-Back Cost - Suggestions?

I've spent a good many hours perusing the threads on the difference between the Gibson exhaust and the Magnaflow exhaust. It seems to come down to personal preference. I want flow and good throaty sound without too much drone. That said, I'd like to go Magnaflow. Problem is I bought a cat-back system off ebay $for 370.00 - #16697 - and was told by the seller that it would fit. I don't know if it was supposed to fit on some types of 08 Ram's, but it didn't fit mine and there wasn't a muffler shop willing to modify it to make it fit - it was just not meant for my 08 Ram quad cab, short bed, 4x4, 5.7L. The seller initially said something about it not having a "solid front axel" but none of the 1500's have a sfa - he then recantted the comment saying sfa had nothing to do with it. In the end I've lost 135.00 on return shipping fees and wasted labor charges.

Anyway, I go to Magnaflow's cite and find the system that is supposed to fit - 16851 (I want rear exit) - and the price tag on it, even on ebay, is a good 300 higher (627 was the best I could find). Does anyone know where I could get it cheaper? I searched all the places I could think of. I'm willing to bark up the $500 range price tag but 630.00 is a bit too much. Worst case scenario is I sit on the idea and just save up for awhile but considering I've been trying to get a system on the truck for 2 months I'm getting a bit antsy.

why get an entire catback system? the ram already has 3" mandrel bent pipes. the only thing you would be gaining from the catback is it being stainless steel. why not just replace just the muffler?

Honestly I hadn't thought about that - than why does anyone add a cat-back to their trucks?

Looks they like the dual look. I just replaced the muffler with a Borla XL Pro and a 18" piece of pipe. Sounds great and flows a lot better than the stock 3 foot garbage can.

I live in the New Orleans area and a local shop here did my Magnaflow muffler and stainless pipes with 18" stainless tips for $308, that's including 7.5% sales tax.

Looks like I'm a little out of touch with how the stock system works and the difference between it and a cat-back. If I'm understanding correctly, you can just take the muffler of, swap it for a different one (Magnaflow for example), and replace the tailpipe with a much shorter stainless steal tip and get practically the same thing - minus the dual look.

What's keeping me back is I'm not sure where to go after I have the muffler. Question though. It doesn't look like Magnaflow carries a dual 3" in dual 3" out 14 inch Muffler...I don't know if I'll get enough sound out of their 3" in 3" out 18 inch Muffler
