I've read the FAQ, but don't see what I'm asking for...

'08 RAM 2500 QC SB 4x4 Hemi. - I'd like to "sound like a truck without being obnoxious".

I've gone through some exploration of getting a 3500 duallie, but that's not going to happen. So, since I'm sticking with the Hemi:

- Daily driver
- Tow ~6,500lbs plus ~500lbs payload and hit ~4,400RPM sustained on the hills/mountains

The truck is just too quiet at idle and city cruising. I don't want to rattle windows, but I'd like to say, "Hey, I'm a truck!" Since I do sustain ~4,400RPM, I don't want the high end to be overpowering or to pick up a drone while cruising. Gaining a little bit of low-end torque would be nice, but I'd be happy with simply not losing any power.

I'm happy with the shop I've used in the past (no truck herpes) and they quoted an unspecified Magnaflow, lifetime warranty, for $199 installed or a Flowmaster , 1 year warranty, for $169 installed.

Comments, suggestions, etc? Keep/remove the resonator?

Magnaflows are known to be the quieter of the bunch (shorter the length the louder they get, I believe 14" is the shortest and 24" is the longest)....which flowmaster series are you looking at? Either way for what your needs are i'd leave the resonator on.

"I don't know," that's why I'm asking. . Magnaflow has a better warranty and a price that at face value makes it appear to be a "better" muffler.

If I replace the stock with the same length Magnaflow (or Flowmaster), is the sound going to be essentiallly the same?

I've found a couple of YouTube vid/sound of new mufflers, but mostly "Let's nail the gas and see what it sounds like", not cruise or high RPM/heavy load.

 

No the sound will be way different even with the same length muffler, the sound is made by the internals

 

man just stop ....get a magnaflow...deep low rumble
now flowmaster..loud raspy , sounds like a old pontiac with no muffler IMO

 

Flowmaster = aluminized and rusted away in 5 years
Magnaflow = stainless and no rust.

I'd blow my brains out if I had to hear any kind of drone towing that wasn't a diesel.

 

Being able to control the tone is one of the nicest things about the cutout.
