Question Tow Haul Dangerous????

Is it bad if I turn on my tow haul while driving and not towing. It seems to have a better drive with it on. I do average daily driving and with it always on will it harm something? Thanks for the help!

Turn the tow haul mode on tightens up the shift in the tranny and keeps it out of 5th gear. Unless you're out on the highway there's no need for the tranny to go in to 5th gear which is a second overdrive. I've found that even at highway speeds it doesn't take much of a hill before my truck is back down to fourth. Fifth is just too high to be useful. Tow haul also disables MDS like stated earlier.

Incorrect. Tow/Haul mode does not disable 5th gear. It just takes a long time to shift from 4th to 5th.
Tow/Hauls function is to drag the gear out into the rpms more. I find it rather annoying to have the truck wind up the rpms before it shifts without towing anything. I prefered the O/D off to disable the MDS.

To answer your question, No, Tow/haul mode won't hurt anything except rev your motor so it hits harder in the next gear.

I turn it on every time i drive, just to counteract the 35"s and 3.92 gears...i get slightly better mileage that way, but thats because of the tires and bogging down when its not turned on. and, i like how it downshifts for city driving when u slow down.

I put my truck in tow/haul before I even put the transmission in drive. With the 4.7 and 3.55 gears, I get a hell of a whole lot better fuel mileage in town. As a matter of fact, when I go up north to the cabin, I run my truck at 78ish MPG, and tow/haul on, and get almost 20 MPG everytime. With tow/haul on, it declines slowly to about 18 MPG and some change.

I always run tow/haul in the city. I can't stand the early shifts I get without it.

Tow/haul does not give better mileage on the highway! How can it? 5th gear is 5th gear. There's no special gear for tow/haul. The only thing it does is delay the shifting point and down shift sooner.
Unless you are using the tow/haul mode function to turn off MDS, or your inconsistent in the throttle or going up/down hills which would cause you to be in 4th gear most of the time.

So your telling me that my truck never enters 5th gear?

I drove steady on the highway at 70mph. My rpms were at 1850. I turned the tow/haul on and ofcourse my truck downshifts, but then after it settles back in gear I am at the same 1850rpms that I was at in 5th gear on the highway with the tow/haul off??????

I'm going to video tape me doing this to show you guys what I am talking about. Unless, 4th and 5th are so close to another it's hard to even notice?????????
