My system setup...
hey guys..
i just wanted to check and see what you guys thought about this setup..
I am picking up a 12" kicker CVR from a friend for a great price..
and am going to probably go with this box.....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tab%3DWatching
and im still up in the air about which amp.. my goal is not to spend a fortune, but sound decent.. i figure i only really need a amp that will push 300ish RMS to give the kicker enough bump...
any thoughts?
also, real quick, does it matter if the sub is a 2 ohm or 4ohm when it comes to the sub?
(i am running stock Head unit with no plans of upgrading)

Yes, if the sub is 2ohm then you will need to make sure the amp is 2ohm stable. Generally speaking the lower the ohm value the less resistance or load the amp will see, and in turn produce more power. An amp rated at 150w @ 4ohms may very well produce 300w @ 2 ohms. Just make sure you get a mono amp and go with a quality name, a cheap amp can sound horrible. I'd find an amp rated around 350w rms @ 4ohms and you should be fine. Oh, and on that box, don't forget the poly fill.
You didnt say if that CVR was a SVC or DVC. I have 2 CVRs in 2ohm DVCs. They are 400 rms and 800 max. Coincidently my amp is 800 rms and 1600 max.
So even with 300 rms I think you will be good.

Directed & Concept make affordable amps....I like my D1200 Directed Class-D for the subs, and I might suggest the directed D600. It is 300wRMS x1 and they are small and efficient. It wont produce much heat, and they sound good.
Here is one for $85 and ebay has them for $115. I have never shopped at gooddeals18, tho...

thanks for the help guys.. not sure what SVC or DVC means, and i still am not sure weather the sub is 2 or 4 ohms.. ill have to look at it when i pick it up from him.
and do you mean about the box, dont forget the poly?

SVC=single voice coil. meaning there is just one positive and one negative connector on the sub.
DVC=Dual Voice coil. Two sets of conections gives user more versatility with amps.
As far as 2 or 4ohm, generally the sub model would be something like 12d2 or 12d4 which would mean 12" sub 2 or 4ohm accordingly.
Poly is the teddy bear type stuffing that gets put into the box so the sub acts like it's in a bigger box. Has it's ups/downs, but primarily a benefit.

That Kicker will be mid-high hitting bass regardless of box dimensions. Not much low end kick that stands for anything. Those subs aren't meant for DB drags.
