Well I went out and bought a 08 Ram 1500 Big Horn QCSB 5.7L Hemi w/Tow Package. Now I’m looking into the best bang-for-the-buck performance (HP) mods. With that being said, it’s under warranty so I don’t want to crack into the engine or do anything that may void it. So, I guess I’ll have to settle with bolt-ons. I guess what I’m really looking for is a list of actual or close dyno numbers.

Example:
Headers – 15
Mid Pipe – 5
Catback – 5
Intake – 3

This way I can see what is worth my dollar and which is not. I’ve tried doing searches, but there are really no numbers, just SOTP comments made by people.

The first thing I would do is put a tuner on it. There is a lot of lost potential in the motor, but more importantly in the trans. It shifts way too early and way too soft. A diablo tuner will have it shifting the way it should, and putting more ponies to the rear. Best bang for the buck. Period.

Ramhunter, why did you sell off your diablo? I remember you saying its now blowing other peoples transmissions or something like that. What was that about?

I'm just wondering how much of a HP increase the 87 tune would give me using either the DSP or the SC? Gas is pretty expensive where I am and I fill up at least once a week, so I'd want to stay with the 87 tune until Gas becomes a bit more reasonable. I've heard that the DSP is the one to get if you plan on doing a ton of mods. The SC is just for reasonable boltons and such. I'm leaning towards the DSP, but wondering what I'd receive for performance, along with getting rid of MDS.

i had the diablo for a few days never installed it due to i was reading allot of tranny problems....i then got the SC but now it seems diablo has there $hit together and im sick of waiting for SC to give us updates like the diablo has.. if SC wants to keep customers they better catch up with diablo!!

I feel your pain RH. I have been waiting since November for these options and am sick of waiting too.

To answer the OP's question, I agree with frog, go with the tuner. Best bang that you are going to get without tearing into anything major.

The Hemi gains about 20 RWHP and 20 RWTQ on 93 octane with the Predator.
The increase in gas mileage will more than make up for the little bit difference per gallon for premium.

When warranty work is required, just reinstall the stock tune.

New they cost close to the same....so like anything else get the most for your money which would be a predator in this case. If you don't plan on heavy mods and want to save money by buying used...get the superchips. If you buy used make sure the seller specifies that the tool is unlocked.
