Default 265 or 285 by 70/17 on my reg cab?

i am needing new tires soon. and i will prob get some continentals because i dont have four wheel drive and dont need a/ts in atlanta. but i would like to get some 285/70/17s but im worried it may look too big in the front without a leveling kit. will it?

285s would probably look too large without a level, IMO. I just ordered 295/70/R17s and am getting a leveling kit installed.

I think 265/70/17 would look very good on your truck.

265/70R17's would be my pic.

Of course, I prefer 275/60R20's

Question Same question...

I was looking at 285/70r17's for my '02 quadcab 4x4. I've looked around and haven't found an answer yet while using the search engine on this site. Anyone have an expert opinion on whether or not these would rub, cause a noticeable drop in MPG, or even throw off the speedometer?

I just read an answer to a similar question by an old car mechanic who said he has the same size tires on his, and his alignment and speedometer went crazy. I don't know whether to think his answer a little exaggerated or worth paying much heed to. Of course, after getting a brand new set of tires, I would be getting an alignment done during the process. Thanks in advance.

Depends on what your current tire size is versus the 285/70r17s. If your changing from a 31' inch tire to a 32.5' tire, yeah, that will throw the speedo off by about 4%. It may not sound like much, but that's a 2-3 mph difference at highway speed.

My '02 has the origional stock 245/70r17's that it came with. I just hit 60k miles on it but didn't have the cash to put on new tires till lately. I was too busy fixing the damage my wife decided to impart on my truck. ;_;

And forgive my ignorance here, but what can you do to correct the speed-o issue? A trip to the dodge dealer? Would they charge an arm and a leg?

The shop that mounts and balances the tires will be able to calibrate the speedo for you, or you could take it to the dealer. If you have a Superchips or similar tuner, you can adjust it yourself.
