...Exhaust Ideas
Honestly, I'm OCD about stuff too as you know. However, no one but you and your brother and maybe one or two others are going to actually be staring at your exhaust long enough to ever notice that. When you drive by someone they may and I mean may glance at your exhaust. None of them are going to look at it and keep staring. They are going to glance at it and then look back at the road. Probably the only time people will notice that is when you point it out to them. I'd honestly save my money for something else instead of paying to have the same thing done over and over. It's not even something most people will notice or even care about.

Today I went to Autozone and picked up a can of Duplicolor high-temp paint and went to attack the tailpipes. I started by covering the exhaust tips with grocery bags, and then closely taped off the part where the tip meets the pipe. Then I took a deep breathe, and started to layer both the passenger and driver side tail pipes, covering anything that went over the rear axle. After about an hour, I went back and hit it one more time. After I finished spraying, I waited about 30 minutes before I removed the tape and grocery bags to see the final product. I was so happy with the way it came out. After stepping back, all I could see were the exhaust tips. Prior to the high temp paint, the piping was messing with my eye, making the exhaust tips blend with the piping, giving the illusion the exhaust tips were 5 ft. long. Now everything is all hidden, and you just see the pretty exhaust tips, thanks for the tip guys!
P.S: I need a damn digital camera, these cellphone pictures don't give any of the pictures I post justice.

Ok guys, I could really use all of your knowledge and opinions on this one. As I know, I've made a lot of noise about the exhaust for my truck (no pun intended!). However, I am just in a terrible pickle with this whole exhaust thing. About four weeks ago, I had that Flowmaster Super 44 exhaust system installed. Right from the start I hated it. It wasn't nearly as loud as I anticipated, and just droned more than anything...a dud! So then I went and spent the big bucks on the the Flowmaster 50 HD that Flowmaster raves about. Theoretically, the 50 HD has 4" internals, maximizing performance for the high powered hemi, but also has three chambers to keep the drone down..
Today, I have a 3"inlet/2.5" dual outlet Flowmaster 50 HD muffler installed. Around town, it's not too bad, and it's almost right. Here and there it hits some spots where it drones a bit more than I'd like, but then quickly smoothes back out. However today, I experienced the bad side of the 50. My dad and brother asked if I would take my truck up to see my sick grandfather today. The truck is low mileage, so it's a good candidate. It's about a 180 mile trip one way, so roughly 360-375 round trip. Anyways, that god damn muffler just would never shut-up. It was so embarrassing and uncomfortable for me and my passengers. Basically, I had to stay below 70mph in order to prevent the exhaust from consuming the cab. So not only did the trip take forever, all of our heads hurt. The worst was my poor pops was just sapped from the trip (he hates exhaust), At this point, I just want to find a "performance" version of the stock muffler with dual outlets and put that on. I want it silent, because this truck can't handle a muffler without droning your ears out. And then I'll just have to do the cut-out. Do any of you know of any mufflers that are quite like our stock mufflers, but are better flowing with dual tailpipes? Thanks.

Well here's the problem, you don't like the exhaust. So you will have to continue messing with it until "you" are happy with the sound and look. Over the years I cannot count the times I have tore apart this or that because it didn't have "That Look or Sound" I was after. I ran my Flowmaster duals out the back SRT-10 style. It has a bit of a Euro look which I like and the noise isn't pointed at the road/cab so it isn't annoying. I don't like pipes showing so I was sure I'd run them out the back when I started. This gave me direction so all I'd have to figured out was the look I wanted the tips to have. Such as an outlet on each side, tips just peeking down or the duals together on the right side. Sometimes it takes a couple trys to get things right, so what. I figure it's my canvas and I'll paint the picture I want on it. Old guys 2 cents.
Good luck,
Good luck,
Well, here's my problem. I love the look of dual exhaust. I love the way my exhaust tips come out behind each rear tire. Sadly, I'm just bipolar with exhaust these days. I used to just love it loud all the time. Now I like it loud at times, and other times, like it unnoticeable, which is unpractical with one muffler. All I know was that all of us in the cab we're completely drained because of that damn exhaust. My dad sat up front, and he was trying so hard to not say anything, but on the way back down, it was just too much to not saying anything. I couldn't imagine what the trip would have been like with the Super 44 lol.
I love the way my exhaust exits right now, and I want to keep that. Where can I find a muffler that has a 3" inlet/2.5" dual outlet which is as quiet as a stock muffler? I don't want to put the stock muffler back on, I want an aftermarket muffler that flows great. That flowmaster just ruined the trip, and downgraded how great my truck was driving. I should have been able to go 80mph the entire way, but instead had it locked at 69mph to avoid that dreadful drone blahh.

i guess its just me but i dont notice drone at all. i guess its bc i drive with the windows down and the music LOUD lol umm look at aero or magnaflow. the aero is 3in 3 out single but im pretty sure a shop can make an adapter or something
It feels like all of my exhaust systems drone immensely. Maybe it's the way I always have them set-up? I always run the 3" inlet/2.5" dual outlet. I also have that magnaflow y-pipe. Whatever it is, it seems like all of my exhaust just get to that point where it begins to become uncomfortable for me and my passengers, and I hate that.
Just put a stock muffler back on with a "Y" pipe at the end and attach your tail pipes to look like a dual. There problem solved. If you want loud at some point add a cut out. Be done with it.
