I wouldn't do it, at least wait until you have enough of the ranger paid off so it's worth what you owe. Start putting a little extra money on it every month and you'll get there before you know it. There will be plenty of Rams for sale in the future.

I've added negative equity to a car loan in the past and regretted it.

The only way it would be worth it in the end is if the Ram has enough life in it to last you a good 4-5 years and you think you would be happy with it that long.
If you try to go get rid of it for something else in say two years, you'll find yourself even more upside down than you are now...

I've got a friend who bought a loaded Mustang in '05, loved it, but then the camping bug hit him. He needed a vehicle to tow a camper with. So he took a $7k bath on the one year old Mustang that he put almost nothing down on. Had to overfinance a big V8 SUV by that amount. He loves camping and loves that SUV. After having it three years, he can't see himself getting rid of it for at least 4 or 5 more years. In his case, he's glad he did it, and it was the right move - for him...

Well, it wont be driven all the time. The ranger was a daily for about 7 months then I picked up a 4cyl car to commute in. I have only put 12k miles on the ranger in 24 months.
So the Ram will see the garage most of the time as it wont be my daily.

if you're going to keep it forever, do it. if this is just a 'im gonna try this' walk away. but the deal on the truck is killer!

also, remember that the ram will take more gas $$ too.

I wouldn't be so sure, 'Feej. I had a POS Ranger for my company vehicle when I was the network service rep at a company in Ga. The thing had a 4 speed manual tranny and the old 2.3L four banger and was so underpowered I only got about 13 mpg's out of it in combination driving. I shudder to think how bad it would have been if it had an automatic transmission...

True, 4 yrs isnt really a long time considering it wont be driven much, esp in winter. My car gets 35mpg. I can go 2 weeks to and from work without stopping for gas.

I test drove a new one back in 2005 and loved it, plus I am wanting to get a camper soon.

Youre exactly right, its an auto 4cyl 2.3 and cant get out of its own way. The only reason for buying it is because the wife and I just bought our house. I think filling it up was 16 gallons and I was getting 300 out of a tank, and that was easy driving.

The LSD is the limited slip differential as mentioned above.
These do regularly go in our 1500 trucks.
That's why so many of us 1500 owners with the crappy stock LSD's switch them out for either an Aurburn unit or a Detroit TruTrac.
If the retaining clips damage the carrier, you're looking at two and a half to three thousand dollars to repair it.
A warranty is a must in your financial situation if your already balking about payments and negetive equity etc.
