Default Transmission wierdness.

I am new to the Dodge truck ownership expierience and I may be worried for nothing but I have to ask.

Here's the deal, sometimes when I get in my truck and start it up after work or something and I put it in gear it will not move for maybe a second then it seems like the trans builds pressure and goes,is this common with these trucks or is this a sign of impending problems?

The truck is a 2006 hemi 1500. I searched the forums and I couldn't find this specific trans issue anywhere.

The frist item I would try is a fluid and filter(2) change. The recomended service interval is 30,000 mile. At that time, any adjustments can be made. A second or two delay on a cold engine is not unusual.

Good luck with the new ride.

My Gen II did that, but it had a known small leak.

My Gen III doesn't delay after sitting a week or more. Check the fluid level first. Yep, it's time for a drop 'n' drain and filters.

I've only owned the truck about 2-3 weeks now and it has 48,000 miles on it,I don't know if the previous owner did anything with it or not as far as fluid/filter changes. I did look at the fluid when I was looking to buy the truck and it looked nice and pink on the dipstick. I had an old transmission shop guy tell me to apply a thin layer of vasoline to the trans pan gasket whenever doing a change and this would prevent the gasket from leaking. DO you guys think that is a good or bad idea? I never tried it but the old guy seemed to know what he was talking about.

The vasoline trick only keeps the gasket from sticking to the valve body and allows you to reuse the gasket.

Just talked to the local advance auto parts and apparently my truck has both a screw on filter and a normal style filter, does that sound right to you guys?

Yes about the filters.
One is a rather large pancake filter and the other, a small spin on cartrdge type.
Make SURE, that when you order up your filters, you get the correct 4wd pancake filter. There is a difference between the 2wd and the 4wd vehicles in that the pickup is longer on the 4wd.
Hope this helps?
Al.

Ya, the computer at advance showed one filter for 2wd one for 4wd and the spin on. Thats how I came to know I needed 2 filters,I'll probably pick them up tomorrow. Thanks for the confirmation man. This site rocks!

I have been experiencing the same problem with my 2005 4x4 Hemi. I went to change the tranny filters (primary and cooler return) and fluid, but was given the wrong primary filter. Luckily I didn't find this out until I had the RTV sealant on the pan ready to put everything back together. After a flying trip to Autozone, accompanied by a few choice words, I returned it along with all the fluid that dripped on it while trying to install it. They apparently did not have the right one so I went next door to O'Rielly's and found the one I needed. A few days later I noticed that after sitting all night the transmission wouldn't engage unless I let the truck warm up for about 10 seconds. This has been going on for about a month until I found this TSB "technical service bulletin" posted on a dodge website (http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2006/21-007-06.htm). Not only did Autozone give me the wrong primary filter, but the wrong cooler return filter as well. I picked up the one listed on the tsb today and hopefully that will fix the problem. I've decided I'll sell the truck before I change the tranny fluid and filters ever again!!!!!! Hope this helps???
