A while back I had this idea of putting frozen water ( ice pack, 2 lt frozen water botle ) in the bottom of the air intake and than putting the air filter over the frozen water.

Idea being that that the warm air will get cool by the ice before entering the throtle body.

I tried this today and found that my truck seams to have more get up and go, and MPG seams better.

But, I got to thinking that plastic, or rubber intake hose is not going stay cool long enough to make swapping out coke botles when they thaw out and re freazing them worth the effort.

Thiers a lot of room in the Factery air box, but don't put any thing above the air filter ... and don't block the air intake in the fender ...

 

ice here would melt in like three seconds bc its so hot. also i would be worried about when the ice melted the water would get into the engine and hydrolock

 

I'd have to see it to believe it, no offense, I just don't think a little ice in the bottom of an airbox will exchange heat fast enough to make any difference. But along the same lines you could also do a cool can on your fuel system...

The frozen water botle survied a 45 mim drive and than was sorta melting, puting lose ice under the air filter is a bad, bad, idea ...

I'm not suggesting dry ice or nitrogen as a means of cooling the air, thats just dumb and not worth the effort..

 

You can also make your own. Here is page 7 of my alcohol injection thread. This covers making a "Dry Ice Chamber." Basically I'm running 20ft of fuel line and 20ft of alcohol line through a block of ice. All you have to do is crush the dry ice, pour in it and slowly add small amounts of water. The dry ice flash freezes the water. Continue this step two or three times and you end up with a block of ice.

I doubt your milage is going up,cooler intake air allows a more dense fuel charge to be intrduced into the motor,it seems like your mileage may stay the same or go down. I'll give you points for creativity though.

 

I wanna see someone direct their A/C into the intake. then you would be getting cold air

 

As said before, I wouldnt want the moisture and water in there.

 

I work at a power plant and gas turbines with chillers on the inlet will gain 10%-20% in power output with the cooler air charge. This is a proven theory with real results. All combustion engine's work on the same theory, more air (density) will create more power and be more efficient in making that power. Surprised no one has tried to use there AC to cool the air inlet.
