7/23 Drop the truck off in the morning. At 3pm, Dealer says "My service manager says he's seen this quite often, We're going to change the water pump." At 6pm Dealer says "pulled the water pump, it was fine. After looking deeper into the problem, the heads are warped. Call me back first thing in the morning.

7/24 Dealer says "I can get one of the heads tuesday, but Honestly can't tell you when the other one will get here"

8/3 (TEN days later) Dealer says "what ... do you have ESP !! I was just going to call you... your parts are here"

8/4 Dealer says "We'll get ya taken care of, as soon as possible"

8/5 Dealer says "We've got the heads on, and the truck back together...
But it's still running hot":icon_ doh:

you gotta be kidding me... I told him to get me a new radiator.

Stay tuned.

Make sure your thermostat is working properly we just had a thread where it was the T-stat and he didn't find out until after doing a new radiator.

Too bad dealerships don't think the way we do... (change a part that could be the problem while you're in there). Or at least put it in a pot of boiling water to see if it opens.

Well, well, well.... " A partial blockage in the radiator "

Makes me wonder if the heads were even bad in the first place, because if you recall... the truck did not exhibit any symptoms normally associated with such a problem as warped heads.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the tech put all the worms back in the can. You can bet i'll be back to let you know what happens next.
Time will tell.

Hey, I had the same problem a couple months ago. Changed the cap, thermostat (twice), water pump, and had the radiator flushed. The thing that did it for me was buying a new radiator. Got one on Ebay for $100 brand new. Everything fit great and now the problem is solved. It seems that alot of high mileage 4.7's have this same problem.

Thumbs up

I should be picking up the truck this afternoon.... Is there anyone, who may have been following this thread, that can offer any suggestions as to what I should make sure is working before I leave the dealer?

For instance.... dont they have to remove heater hoses? (which means I would make sure the heat is operable)

I just want to avoid leaving, then finding something that isn't working, because of the normal procedure of removal and reinstallation of new heads.

As always, the input from folks who know is tremendously appreciated.
THANK YOU ALL.

Yes, the whole top of the motor was off. Check to make sure the oil looks new. Some anti-freeze and get into the oil when the heads are pulled. Check the heat and all fluid levels. Look for any signs of a leak as well.
