MDS isn't original to anything 02-05, so it would be a PITA to get it to work right. You can use the engine/trans from an 04-05 (entire bus system redesigned in 06), but you'll have a difficult time getting the 04-05 wiring harness to interface with your existing 02. That's why i said an 03 would be your best bet. Unless you have an ENTIRE 04-05 to pull EVERYTHING out of.

I wont have EVERYTHING from the donor. But I think I will have enough. Most importantly I have a shop, the right tools, and lots of good help.

Ill let you guys know what happens.
I got an 08 Motor with tranny. Only problem is the tranny is 2wd. Ill figure out if the transfercase from my old tranny will bolt up. if not, its not to big a deal. Ill figure it out

Well have fun, like I said, they redesigned the whole electrical system (went from PCI bus to CAN bus) in 06.

I believe you man, that would make it tough, but not impossible.

But I already changed my mind, LOL. What about a HEMI out of a car? I bet that wiring harness is useless. Can you buy a complete wiring harness aftermarket?

I imagine you can buy anything if you can find someone to make it. You can use any year hemi out of a truck (the car ones have a completely different intake and valve cover /coil setup). I would check out the guys in this link. They might be able to help you find what you need.

I posted this a while back and it might help. A friend of mine successfully transplanted a 5.7L Hemi into his Dakota to replace his 4.7L and he has helped several others do the same.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

I think that swap thread is going to be invaluable.
Its actually my friends truck. We are in the middle of a few projects.
a 360 to 390 swap in a '75 Ford. A 2.9 to 4.0 Swap in a ranger (after the 4.0 rebuild with a turbonetics setup) and this 4.7 to 5.7. Our hands are FULL. LOL

Throw a 400M in the Ford, they make easy torque monsters. I've seen people take either an old T-bird turbo coupe turbo 4 or the similar setup out of a Merkur and drop it in a Ranger for ***** & grins.

I'm glad it helped out. Shoot him a PM over there and he can help you guys out. Like I said, he has helped with several swaps. He can tell you based on what year model and engine desired what engine, PCM, wiring harness, mounts and modifications you will need. Good luck with it.
