does anybody know of a diy on installing a Mcgaughy's 2/4.5 drop thanks
I just did this mod last Saturday. I choose to have a shop that I work with do the majority of the basic labor with me helping and overseeing the install. It was a straightup job with the only surprise coming from the Caltrac part of the install. It called for removing the rear spring front rubber bushing. That sucker does not come out without a struggle. ended up using a sawsall to split the metal shell of the bushing and knocking it out using a hammer and chisel. PIA!. The spindles go in same as if you were changing ball joints. The flip kit is easier using a lift with tall jack stands supporting the axle. Remove the springs and reinstalled them in the new position leaving the axle suspened in place. I choose to weld the the axle to the new spring pads so there would be no chance of them rotating. This was suggested by Bob at Moe"s. Spindle kit uses stock lenght shocks in the front. I have shorter than stock rear shocks so I didn't need the shock extenders supplied with the kit. Good luck,, If you have specific questions please pm me.
I choose the spindle because it didn't look like I had enough travel using drop springs. I had the front end aligned today and the geometry is within spec. I am not sure it would be using drop springs. I do have some pictures, but I am not good at posting. I will try.
