Default Steering Wheel Audio Controls

Steering Wheel Audio Controls

In reference to a 2007 SLT Hemi and/or Cummins Automatic Transmission w/o Steering Wheel Audio Controls. We need to figure out a way to add them as some people are unable to reach the Stereo ***** due to disabilities or other impairments. Not to mention the Safety hazard of removing one hand from the Steering wheel, to navigate the Volume and Channel *****. I am aware that an aftermarket Stereo with a strap-on remote may solve the problem but it does limit the available area on the steering wheel. We believe this could hinder evasive maneuvers and controlling the Vehicle on slick road conditions.

1.We have a Steering Wheel with Controls from another 2007 to use.
2.All the Head Units in question are compatible with Steering Wheel Controls.
3.The MOD will be performed by an Certified Mechanic. So no concern over the Airbag.
4.The Dodge Dealership Service Manager said it could not be done, but he did not know why.
5.He also said we couldn't add the OEM U-connect. Which ended up being a pretty easy task. New Mirror, Wiring Harness, 2 hours of labor.

I realize that this has been asked about before but after hours of research I have found nobody with specific knowledge about executing this on a 3rd Generation RAM.

Speculation is Welcome, but I am really interested in factual differences between the Trucks with and without it, aside from the obvious. If anyone can help with this I would appreciate it. Also, if successful I will write up a technical document with Photos in case someone else in the future wants to perform this "impossible" upgrade.
Thank you Sincerely, g

i would think the wiring would be different. But if I get the chance to talk to a friend he has aldata at work I'll try to get with him and get the wire schematics and print them out for you and email them to you. Maybe your just looking over something. Why it isn't working. I seen the last post about it a few hours ago.
I'll get ahold of him tomorrow and post my findings
but I am not sure if all data will have the info needed It did for grand pix but it was a hard to find

I haven't attempted the process yet. It seems no one else had been able to successfully do it. Does anyone know if it is a different Clock Spring?

Most likely. I did this successfully on a Jeep. Look on your stock clockspring to see if its missing a couple of pins. If it is, then you have to get the right one for the controls to work. The internal wiring from the clockspring to the stereo should already be in the harness. This is what I followed for the Jeep and probably would've used it as a guide in conjunction with the manual if my truck hadn't come with them.

I thought I read somewhere in here that you have to have the premium cpu to make it work,I'm not sure which trucks come with it.

Clock springs are different and I have heard that the wiring is not there either. All should be available from the donor vehicle with the correct wheel.

I wish my Ram had them now. My Grand Caravan and Caliber do. My GC is a Braun Companion van with a lowered floor and wheelchair ramp.

I have an 04 Hemi SLT 1500 and it came straight from the dealership with the audio controls already on the stearing wheel. I have the premium stereo though. Not sure if that makes a difference...

It is part of the "popular equipment group" option.
