Smile a-post broke

So i was getting into my truck yesterday and grabbed onto my handle on my a-post and the thing ripped right off. The bolts went through the supports on the back of it. Is this a common thing or am i just too fat haha. Any suggestions on how to fix this if it is? or is it time for a post with gauges . I searched this up but uncovered no answer. Also only found 1 OEM used post on ebay for about $50!!!!

Are you just looking for the replacement pillar or did it rip out the bolts from the metal under the handle?

I have my old one lying around the garage from when I added one with a gauge pod if you want to work something out

Pretty common. I was hunting last year and was climbing into the truck when someone walked up to talk to me, so I swung around to talk and without realizing shifted my weight back away from the truck, putting it all on the grab handle. Snap, it came off and I ended up on my a$$!

So I bought the SRT pillar post with the gauge pod in it. Cost was no more than the standard one. Stuck a lighted temp gauge that matched the stock gauges perfectly (all of $16.95 at Advance Auto) and I now have a tranny temp gauge.

Always make a repair a mod...

I have a link for a company that sells a repair/reinforcement for the post. Give me a few minutes to find it.

huh, thats an interesting way of coming up with a fix for the problem. They put a steel bushing on the outside and inside of the plastic hole. Only downside I see from it is that they are still relying on the plastic of the grab handle, should the plastic crack further up from where the bushings are and you'll get the same end result. It is a good idea though.

I'm liking everything about that kit except the price. I have been meaning to take mine off and see if I could fab something up to re-enforce it so I don't have another "whoops"... Now you got me thinking about it again...

Well right now i have 2 washers on the inside. I ziptied the plastic back to shape for temporary glueing. I will see how this works after the gorilla glue settles. The bolts just broke through the plastic leaving and awkward torn hole and after putting perfect size washers in, that more evenly spreads the weight out. If all else fails, i might take that pillar off truckin 151 or AF_hemi.

that price covers both driver and passenger handles so it comes out to about 35 bucks per handle which isnt as bad but a little steep still and glad i saw this thread ill take it a little easier on the handle now i didnt even think it could break
