can someone explain something to me, Since diesel engines are so much more powerful and respond so much more to even the smallest of mod's, Then why do we not see them in more sports cars? You know a charger with with a fully tuned CTD.... Something like that.

I realize I am missing something, But hope someone enlighten me.

Really? Isn't a CTD a 6 cylinder engine? Is it really that much bigger and heavier than a hemi for example?

as i mentioned before, people giving diesel too much credit. diesel engines are not more powerful, they just make more torque. in fact, equally sized diesel and gas engines in stock form the gasser will probably make more power.

diesels also respond slower because they are so much heavier so takes more effort for them to increase rpm.

they are very heavy, they are somehat sluggish, historically have been loud (this is now changing), and are more expensive. However, look for Audi and Subaru to change all that in the next few years

I have to disagree that they are slower just because they are heavier have you every seen a diesel that is chipped, upgraded turbo and a shot of propane because until you see one of thos go down the track and turn out an 11 second quarter it really shows you how much better they are than a gas engine. When I went to the track there was a ram cummins with a 6" lift 35's and just a chip and he was running low 15's while I was running low 16's pretty much bone stockso they do get up and haul

you missed a big part of what I said. I said stock form. of course if you mod the hell out of any engine it will be faster than an unmodded engine. If I were to throw a blower/turbo on a hemi and add a 200 shot of Nos i'm sure it'd keep up. The reason turbodiesels are have turbos is because they can't hardly make enough power to get outta their own way naturally aspirated.

torque, yes they make a lot, but power=torqueXrpm. I work with diesels making better than 25,000 ftlbs of torque, but the power is below 5k because they can't go over 1000 rpm.
