I think its all upto the individuals choice, I was running a hack job single style exhaust with dual mufflers. It was 3in out of the cab the reduced to 2.5, then some idiot went the extra mile and added the second muffler to the 2.5in pipe, now mind you they didnt run a y pipe but istead drilled a hole in the side of the 2.5ic pipe an curved it next to the original pipe than ran turn downs that were about 2in right under the cab. Since then I had a 3in catback setup with a Jones FM 40 knock off, then ran the 3in pipe back to the rear bumper with a 45º turn iming to the ground. Exhaust is hidden and sounds nice to me but Im a fan of that old muscle car sound. The Jones muffler is ceramic coated which aids in the rust dept. Ill try to post pics of the hack exhaust that Icut off here as soon as I can get it uploaded. It's gnarly lookn......LMAO PREPARE FOR THE AWESOMENESS OF A COMPLETE IDIOTS IDEA OF DUAL EXHAUST WITH DUMPS!!!!!!!!BEWARE!!!!!!! on a positive note it sounded damn good...lol

I have the Magnaflow as well. 18"er If you haven't clicked my clip in my sig do so. However, I opted for the side for looks, super easy install(lot less piping) as well as I planned on towing alot and while dual rear pipes are nice, they tend to drone when towing because it bounces off the front of the trailer and you hear it through your back window. Many guy shaven complained about this even with Magnaflow which doesn't drone much in general. I just PM'ed a guy last week as he had an '09 with the factory exhaust exiting dually out the back. He didn't like the Magnaflow slip-ons because they droned all the time when towing!
If you have an open trailer, then no worries. I have all kinds. open, closed and a dump which is still a wall up front.

Out the side is not loud at all inside. I start to get a drone at 1800rpms ONLY when going up a hill but then it's gone by 1900rpms. It quickly fades. On the highway at 70mph I am right at 1850 and no drone.

I ditched the rusted out dronemaster and put a cherry bomb Vortex on. At first it was quieter, after a couple 500 mile trips it totally woke up! It has flowed better from day one, but once the glass gets some burn on it, it gets louder. I don't experience ANY drone with the Vortex either. You can hear it, but it is just a nice rumble in the cab, and disturbing the peace on the outside!!!

Well guys, i went with the 50 seriues SUV muffler. I could not be happier, makes a nice sound at the tip of the exhaust and just loud enough in the cab to let you know it is there. No more headaches when i drive my truck...
