Next Truck, a Ford? Uh oh.
Ford is currently in the works of building there 2010 f-150 eco-boost twin turbo v6 motor that will put out 365hp and 360 foot pounds of torque....and get 15-20 percent better fuel milage than its current 5.4l motor....i had the luxury of driving the new 2010 ford taurus with the eco boost motor in it the other day and it HALLS *** it deff feels like it would stomp on a mustang gt and it makes its power from 1600rpm all the way uo to its redline at 6200......
1) It priced the car out of the market. $44k+ for a loaded SHO? I'll pick up a Hyundai Genesis for $3-4k less with more features, more room, and a 10yr warranty.
2) The EcoBoost isn't as economical as they wanted, probably due to the mandatory AWD. As a result, the Hyundai gets 1-2 mpg better city and hwy while also making 15-20 more hp from a naturally aspirated 4.6 liter v8.
3) The SHO isn't that fast either; the Genesis equals its 1/4mi ET and has traps 2-3 mph faster. Buh bye Taurus owner!
That engine in a truck won't be the mpg victory they think it will be either. It takes the same amount of fuel to make the same hp no matter how you accomplish it. That means if a v8 burns X amount of fuel cruising at 60, the turbo v6 will be very close to it because it's expending the same energy.
It's good to see domestic automakers using turbos. Let's just hope they improve them a little more. So far they aren't any more advanced than the turbo imports from 15-20 years ago.
It's your money so do whatever you want to.
Personally, I would like to have the raptor w/ 6.2 but the cab isn't big enough I would need a bigger back seat; like in the Super Crew. Now a power wagon I would love to have despite it being better at crawling, but I know it would take me through anything.

ok, i just seen this and i will say that if i had the money, i would drop the cash for the raptor in a second. then again, i would actually use the truck like that because i'm into offroad racing and stuff. but i can tell you that i do drive like that out in the desert back home in southwest idaho and a little bit here depending on offroad conditions. the dodge 1500 i have is stock and stands up to my abuse of it, and i beat on it regularly. i've jumped it a good number of times, and i regularly drive offroad at high speed, and it handles well, i can drive at 60-70 and have full control of the truck. i haven't broken anything yet, minus my blizzard crash, which i wasn't driving recklessly. Dodge probably just doesn't market it but i'm sure the 1500 could stand up to the ford if you threw better shocks on it, granted i would like stronger A arms on the dodge. now maybe at really high speeds past 70 the raptor would have better control but that's just my opinion based on my experiences. I DON'T RECOMMEND DRIVE BAT-**** CRAZY OFFROAD UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW.
what's the difference between regular f150 and rapturd? uhh new tires, bigger suspension, as someone else said 'cute stickers', and call it a refined truck for offroad? Lololol oh crack me up why don't ya ford! k so we take our rams add taller tires and suspension to match, paste on cute stickers for the mods and go take on this turd bucket. spend a hell of a lot less than those buying this tonka toy and most likely match it well. ford only did this to appease the weekend warriors of ppl who wanted to tear up the sand with something they didn't have to do but sign a check. simple as sin
The raptor is currently the only model to have the 6.2L boss v8 in...although they will prob throw it into the Harley Davidson additions as well. The raptor is basically a baja ready race truck from the factory with long travel suspension...thats what they say anyways and its gonna be damn pricey.
The Eco-boost is already available in the new SHO Taurus.
The Ford is way too heavy and a bit ugly, but is a very good truck, none the less.
There is also a new 6.7L, Ford designed and built Diesel coming in the SuperDuty with 820lb/ft of torque in 2011!!! Already in test mules.
The one draw back to the New F150 is that they are so darn heavy, you need a CDL to drive one
