Question For anyone that can explain it...

What is the main differences between a 113 and 114 LSA on a cam? Is it just sound or is it something else? I have read that the 113 LSA will give more of a LOPEY sound to it at idle, and I have been told that a wider LSA like a 114 will net a "wider" power curve on a dyno and less of a peak like a tighter LSA would. So does anyone know if any of that is true? I want to go with a 113LSA on mine since I know how that one sounds and performs, but am curious what changing the LSA would do to the cam/power.

Separation refers to the spacing between the intake lobe and exhaust lobe on the cam shaft. This spacing (or separation) is expressed in degrees on the cam, not on the crankshaft. So, a 113 lobe separation means the intake and exhaust lobes are 113 degrees apart from each other on the cam shaft.

Right I got that part, but what does it do as far as performance gains, power curves or is it just more of a lope sound at idle from one to the other? Lets say I have identical trucks, same year, same engine, same mods, same cam, only difference is one is on a 114LSA and one is on a 113LSA, how would they compare to each other or would there be a difference in power or sound at idle?

One degree won't do much either way. 114 will idle a little smoother. I'm sure you'll see some difference on a dyno, but for real world stuff you won't see much difference unless you're starting with a really crazy cam.

So really no difference between the two then as far as real world driving, thats good to know. Any idea what it does to the power band though or rpm range? Been reading a little into it this morning and it sounds like the concensus is the wider the LSA the flatter the power band looks which is better for daily driving while a tighter LSA will give more of a peak gain and less of an rpm range to operate in.

You've pretty much got it down. The issue here is that just one degree either way isn't very noticeable. Start doing 2, 3, 4 degrees difference and you will definately know!

Are you making a track truck or a torquey daily driver?

Mix I guess, its my daily driver but I want to be able to drive it down to the track after work some nights and play a little too.

I had it 'splained to me by Marty at KRC when I was shopping for a cam. But I didn't really retain enough to be able to explain it. I'm basically an old suspension and lift guy, exhausts too.
Found this, explains it a lot better than I can:

Now you got me really confused there... Whats the difference between an LCS (Cam Lobe Centerline Angle) and an LSA (Cam Lope Separation Angle)?
