What tires should i get?
Hey guys i just bought a set of XD Wheels by KMC - XD797 Spy Black 20'' for my 05 2500 quad cab diesel and i dont know what kind and size tires to put on it. The website recommed 305/50-20 im not sure how big those are but i want it to look good tho. Anyone know if thats a good size and what kind of tire should i get? ill be towing 16000lbs 5th wheel on the weekends too if that makes a difference.
and if anyone has 305/50-20s can you post a pic so i can see what they look like
thats the wheel i just bought too.

Well, here's a crash course on tire sizes:
the first # is the width in millimeters, the second pertains to the sidewall (it's a percentage of the first number, therefore for 305/50, one of the sidewalls is 50% of 305mm) and of course, the third number is the wheel size. So, for your size tire they recommended, it's 305mm wide (which is right at 12 inches) and darn close to 32 inches tall. What I always do is convert the first number to inches (divide 305 by 25.4), this will get you the width. Then, divide the second number by 50 and multpily that by the width, this will get you the sidewall height, both of them (Always divide the second number by 50, it just so happens you're looking at a 305/50 tire, don't be confused by this). Finally, add the sidewall height to the wheel.
Sorry for being so long but it's hard to explain in writing. There's a bunch of people that will tell you a bunch of different defintions for these numbers, but my brother is an chemical engineer for Firestone and I've had plenty of arguments with him about this (and he always proved me wrong in this subject) so I believe this to be very correct.
BTW, with what you're hauling, why did you pick the 20's. Seems like a strong enough tire is going to ring your wallet. Make sure you have a good enough rating on the tire before you buy.

I'd say at least an E. That's a 10 ply tire. I'm not a tire guru, I just thought I'd mention it before you spend a buttload of money on tires that won't handle the wait. Just tell whoever you're buying them from what you're hauling, and they'll tell you what you can get.
Those wheels look sweet. Post some pics when you get them mounted. My truck had Moto Metal chrome wheels on it when I got, but I've been thinking hard about getting some black ones...

Get a tire by NITTO. its called a nitto DURA grappler. it is specially made for towing and has a 60,000m tread life. It is a E rating. It is a highway tire with the looks of a all terrian. They are a little heavier than usual but are meant for 2500+ trucks with a diesel. They come in 20" sizes as well.
