Well that something to think about since the y-pipe and the stock muffler are both restrictive. If your having a shop put the muffler on you might as well have the y-pipe replaced at the same time.

on a side note, if I want a 3"/3" I/O, should it be straight or offset?

Well the stock muffler of my 04 3.7 had the inlet and outlet offset to different sides.

I think the 06/07 have a front resonator as well as the rear one. My 08 only had the rear one.
